A dupla Jim Peterik e Toby Hitchcock segue impecável em sua proposta neste oitavo álbum do Pride of Lions, trazendo seu Melodic Rock de produção refinada, instrumental primoroso, melodias e refrãos pegajosos.

"Unbridled" será lançado dia 10/07 via Frontiers Records, e mostra aquela conhecida habilidade de Peterik em criar potenciais hits. Claro, dificilmente teremos uma nova "Eye of the Tiger", até porque os tempos são outros, mas a capacidade de criar melodias  e refrãos cativantes segue intacta, como podemos perceber na abertura, e que dá nome ao álbum.

"Unbridled" inicia com uma intro de guitarras, e tem uma pegada mais Hard Rock, exibindo elementos familiares aos fãs do POF, como os duetos vocais, mesclando os tons mais baixos e maduros de Peterik, com o registro mais alto de Hitchcock, e claro, melodias e refrão irresistíveis

"Edge of Forever" traz Peterik nas vozes principais durante os versos, em um Melodic Rock contemporâneo e com um pé nas raízes clássicas. Destaque para linhas melodiosas das guitarras. O tema fala sobre nosso planeta, que parece enfrentar um colapso, mas que tem solução.

As baladas difícilmente ficam de fora em se tratando do estilo, e temos aqui "Don't Waste a Wish on Me" e "What the Whole World Needs to Know", que podem não chegar a um status de "memoráveis", mas cumprem seu papel, com melodias vocais apuradas e bons ganchos, sendo que na primeira Toby Hitchcock se encarrega dos vocais principais, e na segunda isso fica a cargo de Peterik, com as duas vozes se complementando nos refrãos.

Ainda na parte das baladas, destaca-se "Hell or High Water", que traz arranjos orquestrais, e lembra momentos de outros projetos de Peterik, como o World's Stage, contribuindo para uma diversificação maior no álbum.

E ainda "Ride the Lightning", cover AOR do clássico do Metallica. Não, estou mentindo, é só uma brincadeira hahaha! Apesar do título ser o mesmo, não tem nada ver com os Thrashers, é mais uma balada suave, destacando o alcance e feeling da voz de Tobby Hitchcock, uma das mais marcantes do Melodic Rock e AOR contemporâneos.

Há momentos mais suaves e melódicos, mas menos "baladeiros", como a agradável "I'll Be Your Rock", onde os dois dividem os vocais, em linhas cheias de emoção, em uma letra trazendo mensagens positivas e de empatia.

Nessa linha também temos "I Can See in the Dark", onde destaco as melodias marcantes de teclado, e claro, as guitarras, sempre com intervenções refinadas e de bom gosto. 

E com jeitão de Hit, "Lose Like a Winner", que remete aquela aura anos 80 do estilo, com melodias apuradas no teclado e guitarras, e claro, um refrão pegajoso.

Não faltam também outros momentos mais enérgicos e rockers, como na vibrante "1.000 Long Goodbyes" e "Can't let it Go".

O álbum fecha com "A Mighty Noise", que inicia ao piano e voz, para depois ganhar cores e melodias vibrantes,  se mostrando um soft rock dançante, de linhas vocais cativantes e pegajosas.

Um álbum consistente e sólido, de um grupo já consolidado, que une muito bem as raízes 80's com as nuances contemporâneas. Cumpre bem seu papel, vai agradar seus fãs e os aficionados em Melodic Rock e AOR.

Pride Of Lions: Sophisticated Melodic Rock Without Losing Its Roots

The duo of Jim Peterik and Toby Hitchcock remains flawless in their approach on this eighth Pride of Lions album, delivering Melodic Rock characterized by refined production, exquisite instrumentation, and catchy melodies and choruses.

"Unbridled" is set for release on July 10th via Frontiers Records and showcases Peterik's well-known knack for crafting potential hits. Of course, a new "Eye of the Tiger" is unlikely—times have changed, after all—but the ability to create captivating melodies and choruses remains intact, as evidenced by the opening title track.

"Unbridled" kicks off with a guitar intro and leans into a Hard Rock vibe, displaying elements familiar to POF fans—such as vocal duets blending Peterik's mature, lower register with Hitchcock's higher range—alongside, naturally, irresistible melodies and a catchy chorus.

"Edge of Forever" features Peterik on lead vocals during the verses, offering a blend of contemporary Melodic Rock and classic roots. The melodic guitar lines are a highlight. The song addresses the state of our planet, which seems to be facing collapse yet holds the potential for a solution.

Ballads are a staple of the genre, and this album includes "Don't Waste a Wish on Me" and "What the Whole World Needs to Know." While they may not quite reach "memorable" status, they serve their purpose well with polished vocal melodies and strong hooks; Hitchcock handles lead vocals on the first, while Peterik takes the lead on the second, with both voices complementing each other in the choruses.

Also among the ballads, "Hell or High Water" stands out; featuring orchestral arrangements, it evokes moments from other Peterik projects—such as World's Stage—and adds greater stylistic diversity to the album. And then there's "Ride the Lightning"—an AOR cover of the Metallica classic. No, I'm kidding—just a joke, hahaha! Despite sharing the title, it has nothing to do with the thrash metal band; instead, it’s a smooth ballad that highlights the range and emotional depth of Tobby Hitchcock’s voice—one of the most distinctive in contemporary Melodic Rock and AOR.

There are other softer, melodic moments—though not quite ballads—such as the pleasant "I'll Be Your Rock." Here, the two share vocal duties, delivering emotion-filled lines and lyrics that convey positive messages and empathy.

"I Can See in the Dark" follows a similar path; I’d highlight the striking keyboard melodies and, of course, the guitars, which always feature refined, tasteful playing.

Then there’s "Lose Like a Winner," a track with a real hit-single vibe. It evokes that classic '80s aura, featuring polished keyboard and guitar melodies and, naturally, a catchy chorus.

There is no shortage of energetic, rock-oriented moments either, such as the vibrant "1,000 Long Goodbyes" and "Can't Let It Go."

The album closes with "A Mighty Noise." It begins with just piano and vocals before blossoming into vibrant colors and melodies, ultimately revealing itself as a danceable soft-rock track with captivating, infectious vocal lines.

It is a solid, consistent album from an established group that successfully blends '80s roots with contemporary nuances. It hits the mark perfectly and is sure to please both existing fans and aficionados of Melodic Rock and AOR.
