Powerfull: Uma Ode ao Heavy Metal Clássico

Saudade de ouvir um Heavy Metal naquela veia dos anos 80? Quando o estilo atingiu status de "mainstream", onde gigantes do estilo, que vieram já dos anos 70, como Judas e Sabbath, e uma outra maravilhosa geração como Iron Maiden, Queensryche, Accept e outros, inclusive grupos de Hard Rock, tomaram de assalto rádios, canais de TV e os aparelhos de som de uma geração.  (English Version)

Pois aí está o POWERFULL, banda que tem o experiente Mario Pastore tomando frente, e foi criada com o propósito de fazer um Metal inspirado nos grandes anos 80, e é exatamente isso que o grupo nos entrega neste "Warrior Soul". Vemos aqui Pastore em excelente forma, quem acompanha mais de perto a sua carreira sabe da sua capacidade, e aqui mostra que ainda dá de relho em muito vocalista mais jovem (usando aqui uma expressão bem típica do Rio Grande do Sul! he he), que esquecem do feeling.

Pastore aqui encarna os anos 80 com maestria, em vocalizações que nos remetem aos nomes que marcaram o estilo, como Tate, Dio, Dickinson e Halford. E não poderia ser diferente, tal a proposta sonora.

Em um ataque de riffs e levadas, que trazem o peso e melodia típicos do Heavy Metal oitentista, temos 12 faixas, onde, após um breve intro, já somos pegos de cara pela rápida e feroz "Fireball", Speedy Heavy Metal de riffs rápidos, bateria alucinante e vocais altos; "Blue Beam" apresenta uma levada mais cadenciada, início com melodias tensas, pesadíssima, que remete ao Sabbath e ainda mais precisamente os seus nobres filhos do Candlemass. Possui riffs pesadões alternados por trechos mais melodiosos; "Believe" começa lenta, e climática, com Pastore nos perguntando na letra: "O que há com este mundo?", ela segue em uma levada cadenciada e cavalgada, e remete ao Queensryche clássico, inclusive pela linha vocal adotada por Pastore. Sonzaço!

"Reborn", inicia com uma melodia permeada por harmônicos e  linha de baixo marcante, os riffs e cozinha seguem aquela linha "cavalgada", bem típica oitentista, em um andamento meio tempo; "Warrior Soul", a faixa título, traz riffs que me lembram o Accept e algo de Iron, principalmente na linha vocal (aliás, falando em vocais, tem um trecho sensacional ali pelos 3 minutos), e aqui já percebo que vou ter que tecer comentários de todas as faixas, pois todas trazem riffs e refrãos marcantes, sem invencionices, somente Heavy Metal clássico, com muitos riffs, muitos solos, grandes refrãos e grandes vocais.

"Nightmares" é típica balada Heavy Metal, com guitarra acústica e teclados fazendo o fundo. Destaque para os vocais, que trazem bastante emoção, com Pastore mostrando, mais uma vez, sua versatilidade; "Screaming Inside" é carregada de fúria, andamento mais lento, com muito peso, onde a cozinha martela sem dó, com Pastore cantando com gana, inclusive com vocais rasgados e furiosos; "Tears of Sunday", talvez seja mais carregada de emoção, e por saber antecipadamente do que se tratava a letra (Pastore fala sobre a perda de sua mãe), imaginei que se trataria de uma balada suave, mas, pelo contrário, em vocais altíssimos no seu início, como se quisesse expulsar toda a dor que sentiu, o vocalista entrega uma performance transbordando emoção por toda a música. Uma faixa que segue uma levada mais lenta, mas traz peso, e além do destaque aos vocais, um solo solo inspirado e com doses de melancolia se mostra perfeito para a canção.

Logo após temos a instrumental e acústica "Spain", que traz ritmos hispânicos, tendo ao fundo cantos de pássaros e sons de água, um respiro de tranquilidade nessa mar de Heavy Metal clássico, e logo em seguida a Hard/Heavy "Angels of Light", carregada de melodia e andamento cativante. Fechando, temos a versão para "I Want Out" do Helloween, que havia sido gravada para um tributo que acabou não saindo, em uma versão bem próxima da original, mas com trechos com mais peso e bateria mais veloz. E Pastore manda muito bem, na sempre difícil tarefa de cantar alguma clássica canção do Helloween da era Kiske.

Termino aqui com o que perguntei no início da resenha: "Saudade de ouvir um Heavy Metal Clássico?". O Powerfull vai matar essa saudade, entregando o que prometeu, que era um álbum com a influência do Metal clássico dos anos 80, carregado de riffs e refrãos marcantes, muitos solos de guitarra e grandes vocais!

Powerfull: An Ode to Classic Heavy Metal

Missing to hear Heavy Metal in that vein of the 80's? When the style hit  the mainstream status, where giants, who came as early as the '70s, such as Judas and Sabbath, and another marvelous generation like Iron Maiden, Queensryche, Accept and others, including Hard Rock bands, assaulting radios, TV channels and the stereos of a generation.    (versão em português)

Well, here it is: POWERFULL, brazilian band that has the experienced singer Mario Pastore taking on, and it was created with the purpose of making Heavy Metal inspired in the great 80's, and that's exactly what the group gives us in this debut, "Warrior Soul". We see here Pastore in excellent shape, those who accompanies his career more closely knows his ability, and in "Warrior Soul" he shows how to sing with power and feeling!

Pastore here embodies the 80s with mastery, in vocalizations that refer us to the names that marked the style, as Tate, Dio, Dickinson and Halford. And it could not be different, such as the sound proposal.

In an attack of riffs, we have the weight and melody typical of the Classical Heavy Metal, we have 12 tracks, where, after a brief intro, we are already caught up in the face by the fast and ferocious "Fireball", Speedy Heavy Metal of fast riffs , Hallucinating battery and high vocals; "Blue Beam" presents a more mid tempo song, beginning with strained melodies, very heavy, that sends to the Sabbath and even more precisely their noble son, Candlemass. It has heavy riffs alternated by more melodious stretches; "Believe" begins slow and climactic, with Pastore asking us in the lyrics: "What's happening with this world?", it follows with galloping riffs, and refers to the classic Queensryche, including the vocal line adopted by Pastore. Great song!

"Reborn", begins with a melody permeated by harmonics and striking bass line, the riffs and drums follow that "galloping" line, very typical from 80's Heavy Metal; "Warrior Soul", the title track, brings riffs that remind me Accept and something of Iron Maiden, mainly in the vocal line (in fact, speaking in vocals, there is a sensational stretch there at the minute 3), and here I realize that I will have to To make comments about all the tracks, because all they bring memorable riffs and refrains, without "modern stuffs", only Heavy Metal, with many riffs, many solos, great refrains and great vocals.

"Nightmares" is a typical Heavy Metal ballad, with acoustic guitar and keyboards doing the background. highlight the vocals, which bring a lot of emotion, with Pastore showing, once again, his versatility; "Screaming Inside" is loaded with fury, slower and heavy and pounding drums. Pastore singing with furious and ragged vocals; "Tears of Sunday" is very emotional, and knowing in advance what the lyrics were about (Pastore talks about losing his mother), I imagined that it would be a soft ballad but, on the contrary, with vocals very high in its beginning, like Pastore wanted to expel all the pain he felt, the vocalist delivers a performance overflowing emotion for all the music. A track that follows a slower tempo, but brings weight, and besides the prominence to the vocals, a  inspired guitar solo with doses of melancholy is perfect for the song.

Soon after we have the instrumental and acoustic "Spain", which brings hispanic rhythms, having in the background bird songs and water sounds, a respite of tranquility in this classic Heavy Metal sea, and soon after it,  the Hard/Heavy "Angels of Light", loaded with melody and captivating tempo. Closing the album, we have the version for "I Want Out" of Helloween, which had been recorded for a tribute that did not come out, in a version very close to the original, but with stretches with more weight and faster drums. And Pastore does very well, in the always difficult task of singing some classic Helloween song from the Kiske era.

I'm finishing here with what I asked at the beginning of the review: "Missing to hear a Classic Heavy Metal?". Powerfull will kill that nostalgia, delivering what it promised, which was an album influenced by the classic Metal of the 80s, loaded with striking riffs and killer chorus,  guitar solos and great vocals!
