Formado na Dinamarca em 2023 por ex-integrantes de Scamp, Horned Almighty, Stone Cadaver e The World State, o Dread Witch lançará em pleno dia das bruxas o seu segundo álbum, intitulado “Cult“, evocando uma aura totalmente absorta na escuridão, com sua temática inspirada no cinema cult e literatura de horror.
Esse é facilmente um álbum em que você é arrebatado para uma outra dimensão, com uma sonoridade que enlaça o Death/Doom com pitadas generosas de stoner e outras influências musicais que a banda possui, nos trazendo uma precisão cirúrgica na sequência de cada composição.
As três guitarras com afinação grave, que se juntam ao baixo distorcido, bateria estrondosa, vocais ritualísticos e texturas ambientais, criam a parede sonora densa e de atmosfera sinistra.
Já na faixa de introdução “Born Again”, temos uma abertura funesta e bem marcada por uma atmosfera que nos remete à timbres psicodélicos, tipicamente viajantes, e podemos sentir a presença de nomes de peso como influências , como Sleep e Triptykon, e até mesmo um pouco de Pink Floyd.
Na sequência, a faixa título “Cult“, que chega evocando a crueza nada polida dos riffs, que mais parecem ser vindos de uma motosserra.
A bateria e baixo te ancoram no coração da banda, como se fosse uma compressão contra o peito tal o peso avassalador.
"Altar" se destaca com seu andamento arrastado e de aura totalmente sinistra e maléfica, e traz a participação especial de Sofia Schmidt, do Ethereal Kingdoms, que assume o papel da própria Dread Witch, em uma performance tétrica, intensa e perturbadora.
“The Summoning” é quase um transe espiritual com partes em coro e variações vocais impressionantes, ora quase sussurrantes e ora num gutural soberbo.
Podemos notar que não há uma faixa somente que tem destaque, mas sim um novo material tão impactante que é tranquilamente a prova de que quando os músicos estão na mesma sintonia, tudo se transforma em um monumento sonoro de produção musical, instrumental e lírica gigante.
O álbum foi produzido, mixado e masterizado pelo lendário produtor dinamarquês Tue Madsen, cujos extensos créditos incluem Meshuggah, Baest, Moonspell, The Haunted e Belphegor, entre muitos outros.
Tudo milimetricamente não artificial, orgânico e com uma aura de filme de terror dos anos 80.
Aproveite a imersão na obra, pois ela merece uma audição como um todo.

Dread Witch: Death/Doom Immersed in Horror Literature and Cult Cinema

Formed in Denmark in 2023 by former members of Scamp, Horned Almighty, Stone Cadaver, and The World State, Dread Witch will release their second album, titled "Cult," on Halloween. Evoking an aura completely absorbed in darkness, its themes are inspired by cult cinema and horror literature.
This is easily an album that transports you to another dimension, with a sound that blends Death/Doom with generous hints of stoner and other musical influences the band possesses, bringing surgical precision to the sequence of each composition.
The three low-tuned guitars, joined by distorted bass, thunderous drums, ritualistic vocals, and ambient textures, create a dense wall of sound and a sinister atmosphere.
In the opening track, “Born Again,” we have a somber and well-defined atmosphere reminiscent of psychedelic sounds and foreign journeys, and we can feel the presence of heavyweight influences such as Sleep and Triptykon, and even a touch of Pink Floyd.
Following this, the title track “Cult” evokes the unpolished cross of riffs that sound more like they're coming from a chainsaw.
The drums and bass anchor you to the heart of the band, as if pressed against your chest with such overwhelming weight.
"Altar" stands out with its dragging tempo and totally sinister and malevolent aura, and features a special guest appearance by Sofia Schmidt from Ethereal Kingdoms, who takes on the role of the Dread Witch herself, in a grim, intense, and disturbing performance.
"The Summoning" is almost a spiritual trance with choral parts and impressive vocal variations, sometimes almost whispering and sometimes in a sober guttural style.
We can see that there isn't just one standout track, but rather a new material so impactful that it's easily proof that when musicians are in sync, everything transforms into a giant sonic monument of musical, instrumental, and lyrical production.
The album was produced, mixed, and mastered by the legendary Danish producer Tue Madsen, whose extensive credits include Meshuggah, Baest, Moonspell, The Haunted, and Belphegor, among many others.
Everything is meticulously natural, organic, and has an aura of an 80s horror film.
