W.A.S.P. - "Golgotha": Digno do Top 5 da Banda, e Disponível no Brasil via Shinigami Records

Comemorando o lançamento de "Golgotha" no Brasil, álbum muito esperado pelos fãs do W.A.S.P., reeditamos nossa matéria, porém "vitaminada" por mais algumas informações, detalhes e links! Confira:
 
O W.A.S.P. é sem dúvidas uma banda que ainda possui relevância na cena Metal, e segue lançando álbuns de qualidade e com músicas capazes de empolgar os fãs, ou seja, é daqueles grupos que o tempo não lhes tirou a gana, ao contrário de muitos que parecem lançar álbuns apenas para cumprir contrato, ou por saber que com o apelo "comercial" que possuem, vão vender os discos e os produtos como água no deserto!

Com o tempo, aquela banda com visual e letras mais chocantes, com direito a shows repletos de exageros, efeitos pirotécnicos, carne crua e modelos nuas, que tanto incomodou puristas e órgão como a PMRC nos anos 80, foi amadurecendo, e tanto o visual como o conteúdo das letras também foi mudando, e podemos colocar aí o álbum "The Headless Children" (89) como um divisor, marcando essa mudança na sonoridade e atitude (embora seguindo uma linha mais "comercial", um bom álbum), claro, tudo isso em função do seu mentor, Blackie Lawless, pois o WASP é Lawless, não podemos negar. No mesmo ano a banda se separou, e em 1992, o que era para ser um álbum solo de Lawless, foi lançado sob o nome WASP, tornando-se a sua obra-prima, o aclamado "Crimson Idol", trabalho conceitual.

Desde então, entre diversas trocas de integrantes, Lawless vem lançando álbuns regularmente, e mantendo a banda relevante, com bons álbuns como as duas partes de "The Neon God" (2004) e "Babylon" (2009), o último álbum de estúdio até 2015, onde finalmente vê a luz do dia o novo trabalho, "Golgotha", que vem sendo produzido desde 2011 (nesse ínterim Lawless ainda teve que se submeter a uma cirurgia, devido a fratura na perna).

Sobre o processo de composição, abro parênteses para algumas palavras bem legais de Blackie Lawless: "Uma coisa que você aprende ao longo dos anos no processo de composição, é que depois das músicas começarem a tomar forma, elas começarão a falar com você e elas vão te dizer onde elas querem ir. O truque é aprender a ouvir quando elas falam."

Lutando contra a ansiedade e expectativa de ouvir um novo trabalho de pois de 6 anos, hora de colocar a bolacha rodar. Pois bem,  nos primeiros acordes de "Scream", a faixa de abertura de "Golgotha", já é possível identificar que é W.A.S.P. que está tocando, as melodias, a voz característica de Lawless, os backing vocals, o refrão ganchudo e uma pegada pesada, ótima escolha para abertura. Nada de invenções ou complicações, é W.A.S.P.! e é muito bom! 

"Last Runaway" tem uma melodia mais "leve", numa levada bem Hard Rock, agradável e cativante, e a na letra Lawless fala a respeito dos tempos que passou dificuldades em Hollywood, sendo praticamente um sem-teto por um período; "Shotgun" também vem bem "comercial", com melodias até bem manjadas, porém muito legais, e mostrando que o velho Lawless forjou uma bela coleção de melodias e refrãos "grudentos" nesses últimos tempos, coisa que sempre foi um mestre.

"Miss You" é o que podemos chamar de "baladaça", interpretada com bastante emoção, naquela conhecida fórmula das baladas Metal, começa melodiosa, e cresce no refrão, aquele solo mais longo, melódico e profundo, aliás, um belo solo de autoria de Doug Blair. Uma curiosidade, conforme o vocalista conta no site oficial, ela foi a primeira música que escreveu para "Crimson Idol", que junto a mais duas outras, não entrou no álbum, e agora foi a primeira a ser gravada para este novo álbum.

"Fallen Under" soa introspectiva e vai ganhando em emoção e peso, destacando um belo trabalho de Dupke na bateria, bom...do refrão nem preciso falar; "Slaves of the New World Order"  começa com melodias de vocais acompanhadas pelo teclado (tem uns hammonds bem colocados, que aliás, aparecem em várias faixas), para em seguida entrar em um andamento cavalgado, riffs, bases e alternância de ritmos bem tradicionais, e até um coro "hey hey! hey hey!", com certeza você já ouviu algo assim, inclusive em álbuns do próprio WASP, mas é isso, é feito por quem sabe!

"Eyes of My Maker", traz mais boas melodias e refrãos, e também um ar "saudosista", presente por todo o trabalho, o que quero reafirmar é o que disse no início, é WASP, com todas aquelas características que conhecemos. Cadenciada, a música segue o padrão do álbum, que é mais introspectivo num todo, com as canções seguindo esse ritmo mais cadenciado, mais "balada", mas jamais sendo cansativo, assim como "Hero of the World", que segue uma levada semelhante.

"Golgotha", a faixa título, é épica, praticamente uma "power ballad", com estrutura e melodias de certa forma simples, assim como as demais músicas do álbum, porém com um senso melódico feito por quem realmente sabe, destacando o grande refrão e os vocais marcantes de Lawless, que, se não tem grandes variações ou recursos, tem o principal que é a personalidade e o feeling.

Um álbum em que o fã do WASP vai encontrar tudo o que espera, refrãos e melodias cativantes, Heavy/Hard sem invenções ou instrumental mirabolante, afinal, quem disse que música boa precisa ser complicada? Muito pelo contrário! E 33 anos de carreira não são 3! Obrigado Blackie Lawless por nos dar o que esperamos, mais um grande álbum do velho e bom W.A.S.P.!

W.A.S.P.: Golgotha ​​Brings What Fans Expect From the Band

The W.A.S.P., that one from '80s, which drew attention and shocked the purists with their theatrical performances (with the right to nude models, raw meat, reenactments of torture, etc.) and many sexually oriented lyrics, including also becoming one of the favorite target of the PMRC, and several albums have received a label "Parental Advisory", which also becoming in more publicity for some artists, the time was becoming and just like the look more sober, the lyrical content was also changing, and we can put the album "The Headless Children" (89) as a divider, marking this change of sound and attitude, of course, all this according to their mentor, Blackie Lawless (WASP is Lawless, we cannot deny). In the same year the band broke up, and in 1992, what was to be a Lawless' solo album, was released under the name W.A.S.P., making it their masterpiece, the acclaimed conceptual album "Crimson Idol".

 

Since then, between several exchanges of members, Lawless has been releasing albums regularly, and keeping the band relevant with good albums like the two parts of "The Neon God" (2004) and "Babylon" (2009), the last studio album until 2015, which finally sees the light of  the day the new work, "Golgotha," which has been produced since 2011 (in the meantime Lawless also underwent surgery, because a broken leg).

About the writing process, i have to open parentheses for some Blackie Lawless' cool words: "One thing you learn over the years in the song writing process, is that after the songs begin to take shape, they will eventually start to talk back to you and they will tell you where they wanna go.  The trick is learning to listen when they speak." 

Battling anxiety and expectation of hearing a new work after 6 years, time to listen "Golgotha". Well, the first chords of "Scream", the opening track, it is possible to identify that is WASP that is playing, simple like that! the melodies, the voice feature of Lawless, the backing vocals, the hooked chorus and a heavy sound, great choice for opening track. No inventions or complications, is WASP! and it is very good!

"Last Runaway" has a melody "lighter", a well taken Hard Rock, pleasant and catchy, and in its lyrics Lawless talks about the time he spent difficulties in Hollywood, being virtually a homeless for a period; "Shotgun" is also very "commercial", with kind of simple melodies, but very cool, and showing that the old Lawless forged a fine collection of melodies and choruses "sticky" in recent times, something that he is a master.

 

 

"Miss You" is a ballad performed with emotion in that familiar formula of Metal ballads, which grows in the chorus, that longer, melodic and deep guitar solo, in fact, a beautiful solo by Doug Blair.  And Lawless has wrote in WASP's web site that "Miss You" was the first song he has written to the album "Crimson Idol", which along with two others, did not enter the album;

  

"Fallen Under" sounds introspective and is gaining in emotion and power, highlighting a beautiful work of Dupke on drums, well ... the chorus again are great; "Slaves of the New World Order" begins with vocal melodies accompanied by keyboard (it has a well-placed hammonds, which incidentally, appear on several tracks), to then enter "galloping riffs", traditional rhythms and even a choir ("hey hey hey hey!"), surely you've heard something like that, even in some W.A.S.P. albums, but it is done by those who knows about the business!

   

"Eyes of My Maker", brings more good melodies and choruses, and also an air "nostalgic", well, i felt this for all the work, I want to reaffirm what i have said at the beginning, is simply W.A.S.P., with all the features we know. Well, the music follows the pattern of the album, which is more introspective as a whole, with the songs following this more "ballad" way, but never being tiring, as well as "Hero of the World," which follows a similar taken .

"Golgotha", the title track, is pretty much a "power ballad" with structure and melodies in a simple way, as well as other songs on the album, but with a melodic sense made by someone who really knows what are doing! Highlighting the great chorus and striking vocals of Lawless, who has no major variations or features, but has the main one being the personality and feeling.

 

An album in which the W.A.S.P. fan will find everything they'd expect, great choruses and catchy melodies, Heavy/Hard without inventions or without instrumental dazzling, after all, who have said that good music has to be complicated? Quite the opposite! And 33-years of career are not 3! Blackie Lawless, thanks for giving us what we expect, good music of the great W.A.S.P.!
