Thomas Vikström (Therion): "Eu Nasci Dentro da Música!"

Conforme ele mesmo afirma na entrevista, Thomas nasceu dentro da música, filho de conhecido cantor de ópera suéco, conta que sua vida mudou quando ouviu KISS, e então começou com suas primeiras bandas no colégio, fazendo playback, tocando bateria e depois partindo para o vocal, seguindo uma carreira que tem no currículo desde a primeira banda que considera seu primeiro trabalho sério, o Talk of the Town, alcançando disco de ouro na suécia, trabalhos ao lado de bandas e projetos como Candlemass,Brazen Abbot, Dark Illusion, Storm Wind e muitos outros, e hoje mostra toda sua versatilidade e talento no Therion.

Bom, vamos ao que interessa, confira esta entrevista onde Thomas nos conta um pouco mais sobre o início de sua carreira, seus trabalhos, planos futuros, a recente tour pela América e muito mais, rendendo histórias bem legais, com o bom humor e simpatia que é típico do cantor.

 

RtM: Eu gostaria de começar esta entrevista perguntando sobre como você começou sua carreira como cantor, e eu acredito que seu pai era o seu principal incentivador. Conte-nos um pouco mais sobre como começou o seu interesse e os seus primeiros passos na música?

Thomas: Eu nasci dentro da música. Meu pai era um cantor de ópera e entertainer, então eu rapidamente aprendi como o showbiz funcionava. Eu ficava nos bastidores com ele e assim fui indo. Mas levou um pouco de tempo antes de eu perceber que eu iria trabalhar com a mesma coisa. Eu era como a maioria dos meninos, eu queria ser um bombeiro ou um policial. Até achei que provavelmente eu seria um marinheiro (Sim, eu ainda tenho interesse em barcos). Também fui jogador de hóquei sobre o gelo,  foi uma grande coisa para mim, e eu joguei por um longo tempo. Mas a música estava sempre lá você sabe. Eu comecei a cantar muito tarde. Eu tinha 15 ou 16 anos, eu acho.

RtM: E como o Heavy Metal entrou na sua vida?

Thomas: Eu estava na casa de um amigo, deve ter sido  por volta de 1976, e ele colocou um disco do KISS e me mostrou uma foto da banda. Isso mudou minha vida para sempre. Eles eram como super-heróis e ainda tocavam música!! E eu também comecei a entender que garotas se interessavam por você quando você é músico. Fizemos playback shows (KISS e ABBA) na escola e eu dei o meu primeiro beijo depois de tocar KISS. Eu lembro da menina, o nome dela era Elsa.

RtM: Lembranças bem legais, e marcantes.

Thomas: Sim! E naqueles dias a palavra Heavy Metal não era conhecida. Mas para mim Metal e Rock pertencem à mesma família. Eventualmente eu comecei a tocar bateria e minha banda era chamada Power Dogs. Eu estava no terceiro ano e eu tocava com os "big boys" do sexto grau!(risos) Fizemos 2 shows e minha mãe costurou minha primeira roupa de palco (eu ainda tenho isso em algum lugar). Quando eu tinha 15 anos eu comecei a cantar em uma banda que batizamos de Bastard. Mais tarde, mudamos para Octagon. Nós éramos realmente bons. Nós éramos horríveis em nossos instrumentos, mas tínhamos boas músicas e a atitude certa. Eu cantava muito mal naquela época (risos). Todo mundo percebia, menos eu! (mais risos!)

RtM: A música clássica já está presente há muito dentro do mundo do Heavy Metal, que fatores você atribui a união desses mundos, com os fãs de metal e músicos sempre sendo muito ligados à música clássica? 

Thomas: Eu não sei... O Therion é uma mistura entre os dois estilos. Música clássica e Metal não estão tão longe  um do outro. A ideia de criar emoções são as mesmas. E eu estou convencido de que Beethoven ou Wagner gostariam de metal se eles ainda estivessem por aqui.

RtM: E além de vocês, no Therion, que unem esses dois mundos muito bem,  que outros músicos você acha que sabem como unir bem esses dois mundos?

Thomas: Nightwish é um exemplo muito bom eu acho. Grande banda!
 

RtM: E quais são suas inspirações como cantor clássico? 

Thomas: É difícil dizer, mas eu acho que quando se trata de clássico, é meu pai. Eu percebo que hoje, quando eu ouço minhas gravações e as gravações dele, às vezes, o timbre é assustadoramente parecido. Eu acho que é inevitável. Sua filosofia era muito simples quando se trata de cantar: "Divirta-se e cante o mais natural possível!". Se você pode falar você pode cantar. Ele era realmente irritante para muitos de seus colegas na ópera real, que ficavam caminhando ao redor cantando escalas e aquecendo durante horas. Ele achava que eram uns fracotes (risos). Ele foi chamado o punk rocker da ópera real. 

RtM: e como um cantor de Heavy Metal? 

Thomas: Quando se trata do Metal... não sei, Há tantos bons cantores. Rob Halford...Dio, para citar dois. Freddie Mercury é também um verdadeiro herói para mim.

RtM: Você é uma parte da história de bandas muito importantes no Metal, como o lendário Candlemass. Eu gostaria que você nos contasse um pouco sobre seus anos com a banda. 

Thomas: O Candlemass Foi um período estranho na minha vida. Eu gravei o álbum "Chapter VI" com eles. Um álbum que eu gosto muito. Messias estava fora da banda e eu fui literalmente jogado no estúdio, então cantei "The Dying Illusion" e acabei cantando em todo o álbum. Os fãs odiaram. (Não agora. Agora ele se tornou um registro "cult") e eu posso de  de certa forma compreendê-los. O desejo do Candlemass era ficar longe do doom metal, e eles fizeram isso com esse álbum. Nós fizemos alguns shows e um dia a banda simplesmente adormeceu. Agora eles estão indo muito bem e nós ainda somos bons amigos. 

RtM: Além desse trabalho com o Candlemas, você teve os álbuns com Talk of  the Town (banda de Hard e Melodic Rock suéca), banda que obteve resultados bem legais. Fale-nos um pouco sobre esse período!

Thomas: O Talk of the Town foi a minha primeira banda séria. Eu tinha apenas 18 ou 19 quando o nosso primeiro disco saiu. Ele subiu nas paradas na Suécia e eu recebi um disco de ouro com ele. O sucesso que tivemos foi com a música "Free Like An  Eagle". Eu escrevi a música e foi como ganhar na loteria. Este foi o momento em que eu entendi que aquilo era algo que eu sabia como fazer, e eu podia, como bônus, ainda ganhar um bom dinheiro com isso. Talk of the Town era como o Backstreet boys do metal melódico. Cinco caras bonitões (sim, eu fui um cara bonitão!! Era uma vez ... hehehe), com boas canções em turnê ao redor Suécia, com um grande sucesso. Foi um grande período na minha vida.

RtM: E você teve seu álbum solo, "If I Could Fly" (1994). Como surgiu a oportunidade?

Thomas: Meu solo foi realmente um negócio muito simples. Fui convidado por meu editor para fazer uma solo e eu disse que sim. O negócio foi: Você canta, nós escrevemos as músicas. Se você curte Melodic Rock, eu acho que é um grande álbum

RtM: Sim! Tem muitas canções ótimas de Melodic Rock ali, minhas favoritas são "I Love Watch you Move", "Forever and Ever" e "Love and Emotion"

Thomas: Infelizmente quando ele saiu o grunge começou a ficar enorme. Então o álbum não foi um grande sucesso comercial. Mas eu gosto desse álbum. Jeff Scott Soto fez alguns dos backing vocals e Marcel Jacob (RIP) tocou baixo em algumas faixas. Pontus do Hammerfall  também fez alguns solos. Johan do Therion tocou bateria, assim como também Per Lindwall, que  já tocou com todo mundo. Sim!! inclusive com o ABBA.

RtM: Além do Brazen Abbot e Dark Illusion, temos Stormwind, com quem você lançou seis álbuns, é também uma parte importante da sua história no Metal. Como foram os anos com a banda, qual é o seu trabalho favorito com o Stormwind e por que você saiu da banda? 

Thomas: Brazen Abbot e Dark Illusion são projetos. Especialmente o Brazen Abbot,  um projeto que eu gostava de estar envolvido. Stormwind foi legal. Eu jamais deixei a banda. O líder da banda, Thomas Wolff,  decidiu colocar a banda no gelo para fazer outras coisas. Eu acho que Stormwind foi crescendo de álbum para álbum. O primeiro álbum é provavelmente o pior que eu já fiz e o último é um grande álbum de power metal. Minha música favorita do Stormwind é provavelmente "Touch the Flames"

RtM: Bom, você trabalhou com muitas pessoas e bandas, além das que falamos acima, e pode ser uma pergunta difícil de responder, mas de todos os trabalhos que você fez parte, qual deles você gostou mais para participar, e em qual, ou quais, você considera que teve suas melhores performances? 

Thomas: Sem dúvida  no Therion, eu acho. Mas eu nunca estou totalmente satisfeito.

Mas eu aprendi uma coisa ao longo dos anos, que é aceitar e seguir em frente, é só música! Ser muito exigente só destrói a diversão. 

RtM: E, lógico, falando agora do Therion, uma das bandas (a melhor na minha opinião) que combinam de forma excelente a música clássica com metal, e você se encaixa perfeitamente na banda, o que torna difícil para um fã de imaginar a banda sem você, e esperamos ter muitos álbuns com você ao lado do Therion. Conte-nos um pouco como foi a sua entrada no Therion.

Thomas: Sim, vocês tem que se acostumar comigo, eu não tenho quaisquer planos de sair!!  

Tudo começou com um telefonema. "Oi, meu nome é Christofer Johnson. Eu toco em uma banda chamada Therion. Você quer sair em uma world tour?" Isso é como Christofer é. Muito direto. 

Eu lhe disse: Claro, isso soa como diversão. Mas como vocês soam ?? Envie-me algo para que eu possa ouvir. Eu nunca tinha ouvido Therion antes. Eu tinha ouvido falarem deles. No dia seguinte, eu tinha todo o catálogo no meu e-mail. E a primeira música que eu ouvi foi "Mitternachtslöwe". Eu fiquei encantado por ela e chamei Christofer e disse-lhe: "Eu estou dentro!!!"

RtM:  E sobre a atmosfera de "família" que a banda possui. Podemos ver que este clima contribui muito em suas performances ao vivo. 

Thomas: Quando eu fiz a primeira turnê a atmosfera na banda foi ok, mas um pouco tensa. Um certo integrante (sem nomes!!) chamava os fãs de coisas muito feias, e agiu de forma muito mal educada, o que secretamente me deixou muito triste e envergonhado. Mas eu decidi me divertir e eu não me importava por um segundo com aquele ar mal-humorado que pairava na banda. Agora o espírito e a atmosfera na banda é muito, muito relaxada. Nós nos divertimos, e as "discussões" são realmente poucas. Touring é assim que deve ser: Divertido! E eu acho que as pessoas podem sentir isso quando estamos no palco. 

RtM: Falando de Família, sua filha Linnéa (leia entrevista com ela AQUI) também se juntou ao Therion. Como é para você tê-la ao seu lado no palco? Eu acho que deve ser algo muito especial e que lhe enche de orgulho. E eu tenho que dizer, ela está ficando melhor como cantora e performer a cada dia que passa!

Thomas: Eu estou acostumado a tê-la ao meu lado no palco agora. E claro que estou muito orgulhoso dele. Ela está ficando melhor a cada ano. Ela tinha na verdade apenas 18 anos quando fez o primeiro show com a gente. Isso foi no festival Bloodstock, na Inglaterra. Eu estava mais nervoso do que ela. Eu e Linéea temos uma relação muito próxima. Quando estamos em turnê nossa relação se transforma de pai e filha para colegas. Muitas pessoas perguntam se eu fico com ciúmes com todos os garotos que se aproximam dela durante a turnê. Claro que não. Ela é uma adulta agora e faz exatamente o que ela quer. E agora ela tem um namorado firme, ele é o baterista da Dinasty, e era o baterista da Rock Of Ages, show que eu fiz por quase 2 anos. 

RtM: Deve ser muito legal mesmo tê-la ao seu lado, e você demonstram ter uma bela cumplicidade.

Thomas: Eu acho que eu e Linnéa tivemos 2 brigas somente um com o outro. A primeira foi quando ela tinha 5 anos e eu deveria ensiná-la a andar de bicicleta, e a segunda vez quando ela tinha 16 anos e perguntou se poderia fazer uma festa em minha casa. Eu disse: claro que você pode, mas haverá ZERO álcool, é minha casa e não há nenhuma necessidade de sequer discutir o assunto. Eu não fiquei popular depois disso. Mas agora ela realmente me agradece por isso. 

RtM: Falamos sobre seu álbum solo, lá de 1994, você tem planos ou desejo de lançar outro álbum solo? Talvez com Linnéa! Seria legal! 

Thomas: Na verdade, estou trabalhando em um projeto solo. Tem o nome de trabalho "CHURCH OF DECADENCE". Estou realmente muito emolgado com ele. Quando ou se ele vai sair, eu não sei ainda. E não,  não planejei se Linnea estará nele. Mas ... Obrigado pela sugestão!

RtM: E seu papel no Rock Ópera "Antichrist Superstar" (novo trabalho que o Therion está produzindo)? O que você pode nos dizer sobre este trabalho e suas expectativas para tocá-lo ao vivo? 

Thomas: É um grande projeto grande. E para dizer a verdade não sabemos ainda como vamos fazê-lo ao vivo. Mas, de uma forma ou de outra, vamos! 

RtM: Recentemente você esteve de volta na América, passando pelo México, onde o Therion tem uma grande base de fãs, e América do Sul, onde a banda também é amada. Como foi as impressões sobre essa turnê aqui na América, e como você se sente sobre essa cumplicidade e amor dos fãs aqui para com o Therion?

Thomas: Para mim, os fãs são tudo. Sem eles não somos nada! Zero! E sou um cara social que honestamente ama passar o tempo com os fãs fora dos hotéis e assim por diante. Se você é um artista que acha que os fãs são um pé no saco, há uma abundância de Mc Donalds que precisam de seu serviço (risos! grande Thomas!!)

A América do Sul é muito especial para mim, para nós. E uma grande surpresa desta tour foi a primeira vez em Honduras. Foi realmente muito legal e os fãs foram incríveis. 

RtM: A tour também foi especial porque foi a primeira vez da Chiara (Malvestiti, soprano efetivada ano passado no Therion) aqui também. 

Thomas: Chiara é fantástica. Nós, na verdade, começávamos a perder a esperança de encontrar alguém que pudesse manter a qualidade da Lori Lewis. Graças youtube que a encontramos. Ela é uma ótima pessoa e ela está fazendo um grande trabalho. 

RtM: Lembro-me de ter falado de uma forma bem humorada que essa tour  estava sendo a "No Sleep Tour" com vocês fazendo vários shows em poucos dias. Realmente deve ser cansativo, mas acho que tudo vale a pena com a recepção dos fãs, e estar fazendo o que você gosta. 

Thomas: Essa tour foi um passeio com muitos primeiros voos. Às vezes você tem que acordar tipo 04.00h da manhã para voar para outro lugar. E quando chegar, você deve ir diretamente a passagem de som. Depois do show no Uruguai eu perdi a minha voz totalmente (coisa que não acontece) Por sorte, teve um dia de folga e  consegui dormir e me recuperar,  e pude e fazer os shows restantes no Brasil. Se valeu a pena ?? Sim, em torno de 10 vezes! Você tem que ser feito de um material especial para amar esta vida e eu amo! 

RtM: E artisticamente falando, você sente que é um músico realizado ou tem algo que você quer muito ainda na sua carreira? Que coisas você gostaria de realizar? 

Thomas: Eu tenho feito mais do que a maioria das pessoas têm feito em uma vida inteira, eu visitei cerca de 45 países e eu não sei quantos álbuns já fiz. Eu sou rico ??. Nãaa..Não realmente. Mas eu sou rico se falarmos sobre o que tenho visto e experimentado. Mas eu sempre quero tentar coisas novas. Gostaria de fazer mais teatro. E se me fosse oferecido um papel em um filme que eu diria que sim, sem pestanejar. 

RtM: Thomas, obrigado por seu tempo, antes de tudo, eu sou um grande fã de seu trabalho, e espero vê-lo em breve com Therion aqui na América novamente (Em Porto Alegre também, eu espero)! Eu deixei este espaço final para que você envie sua mensagem para os fãs. 

Thomas: Thanks! O prazer é meu!Acho que tenho os melhores fãs do mundo e vamos estar de volta na América Latina novamente. E eu espero que seja em breve !!!!

Interview - Thomas Vikström (Therion) - "I Was Born Into the Music"

As he himself says in the interview, Thomas was born into music, the son of well-known singer of Swedish opera, says his life changed when he heard KISS, and then began with his first bands in school, making playbacks, playing drums and then starting with the vocals, following a career that has in the curriculum from the first band that considers his first serious work, Talk of the Town, receiving a gold album in Sweden, the huge work in bands and projects like Candlemas, Brazen Abbot, Dark Illusion, Storm Wind and many others, and today shows all his versatility and talent in Therion.  (Versão em português AQUI)

Check out this interview where Thomas tells us a bit more about the beginning of his career, his work, future plans, the recent American tour and more, yielding really cool stories, with good humor and friendliness that is typical of the singer.

RtM: Hello Thomas!! I would like to begin this interview asking about how did you began your career as a singer, and I believe that your father was your main supporter. Would you Tell us a little more about how began your interest  and your first steps in music?

Thomas: I was born into music. My father was an operasinger and entertainer so I quickly learned how showbiz worked. I was hanging backstage with him and so on. But it took a little while before I realize that I would work with the same thing. I was like most boys, I wanted to be a fireman or a policeman. I even had an idea that I would be a sailor (Yes, Im still intrested in boats) also Icehockey was a big thing for me, and I played hockey for a long time. But the music was always there you know. I started to sing very late. I was 15 or 16 I think. 

RtM: And how the Heavy Metal came into your life?

Thomas: I was at a friends house playing. This must have been 1976 or so. And he put on a record with KISS and showed me a picture of the band. That changed my life forever. It was superheroes and they played music at the same time. And I also started to understand that girls like you when you played music. We made playbackshows(Kiss and ABBA) in school and I got my first kiss after playing KISS. I remeber that girl. Her name was Elsa. 

RtM: Great times and good remembrances.

Thomas: Yes, But in those days the word Heavy Metal was not invented yet. But for me Metal and rock belongs to the same family. Eventually I started to play drums and my band was called Power Dogs. I was in third grade and I played with the “big boys” in the sixth grade!! We did 2 gigs and my mother fixed my first stage costume( I still have it somewhere). When I was 15 I started to sing in a band that we called Bastard. Later on we changed it to Octagon. We were actually pretty good. We sucked at our instruments, but we had good songs and the right attitude. I sang horrible back then. Everybody heard that, except me! Hahaha

RtM: Classical music is already long present time within the world of heavy metal, what factors do you attribute the union of these worlds, with metal fans and musicians always being very attached to classical music?

Thomas: I dont know, In Therion its a mix between the two styles. Classical music and metal is not so far from eachother. The idea of creating emotions are the same. And Im convinced that Beethoven or Wagner would love Metal if they were around today.

RtM: And besides you, who unites these two worlds very well, what other musicians do you think know how to use in a better way  classical music and Metal Music?

Thomas: Nightwish Is a very good example I think. Great band!

RtM: And what are your inspirations as a classical singer and also as a Heavy Metal singer?

Thomas :Hard to say, but I guess when it comes to classical singing my father. I realize that today when I listen to my recordings and his recording. Sometimes the timbre is scary alike. I think its un-avoidable. His philosophy was very simple when it comes to singin:. "Have fun and sing as natural as possible. If you can talk you can sing". He was actually irritated of many of his collegues on the royal opera who was walking around singing scales and warming up for hours. He thought that was kind of wimpy (hehehe). He was called the punkrocker of the royal opera.

When it comes to Metal... I dont know, there are so many good singers. Rob Halford, DIO to name two. Freddie Mercury is also a true hero for me.

RtM: You are a part of the history of very important bands in Metal, as the legendary Candlemass. I would like you to tell us a little about your years with the band.

Thomas: Candlemass was a strange period in my life. I recorded the album "Chapter VI" with them. An album I like very much. Messiah was out of the band and I was litterately thrown into the studio and I sang “The dying Illusion” and I ended up singing on the whole record. The fans hated it. (Not now. Now it has become a cult record) and I can in a way understand it. Candlemass wish was to get away from the doom metal, and they did with this record. We did a few shows and one day the band just fell asleep. Now they are doing great and we are still good friends. 

RtM: And you have the album with Talk of Town, a band with great results with the first record. Tell us a little about that period wit TT. 

Thomas: Talk of the Town was my first serious band. I was only 18 or 19 when our first record came out. It went up the charts in Sweden and I received a gold album for it. The hit we had was called "Free Like an Eagle". I wrote the song and it was like winning a lottery. This was the moment I understood that this is something I know how to do, and I can as a bonus earn good money on it. Talk of the Town was like The Backstreet boys of melodic metal. 5 good looking men (yeah I was handsome once upon a time… he he) with good songs touring around sweden with a major hit. It was a great period in my life. 

RtM: In 1993 you had released your solo album "If I Could Fly", I would like you also to comment on about your solo. I believe solo albums are important, a way of musician show their influences and personality without barriers.

Thomas: My solorecord was actually a very simple deal. I was asked by my publisher to do a solorecord and I said yes. The deal was: You sing, we write the songs. If you are into melodic rock, I think it’s a great album.

RtM: Oh yeah, great Melodic Rock songs, my favorites are "Love to Watch you Move", "Forever and Ever" and "Love and Emotion".
Thomas: Unfortunately when it came out grunge started to get HUGE. And it was not a big commercial success. But I like that album. Jeff Scott Soto is doing some of the backing vocals and Marcel Jacob (RIP) Is playing bass on some tracks. Pontus from Hammerfall are doing some solos. Johan from Therion are playing drums and also Per Lindwall who played with everybody. Yes, even ABBA.

RtM: Besides Brazen Abbot and Dark Illusion, we have Stormwind, with who you released six albums, is also an important part of your history in the metal music. How were the years alongside the band, what's your favorite work with the Stormwind and why did you leave the band?

Thomas: Brazen Abbot and Dark Illusion are album projects. Especially Brazen Abbot is a project I loved to be involved with. Stormwind was cool. I never quit that band. The band leader Thomas Wolf decided to put the band on ice to do other things. I think Stormwind was growing from album to album. The first album is probably the worst I ever made and the last one is a great power metal album.

My fav song from Stormwind must be “Touch the flames" I think.

RtM: You have worked with many other bands, and plus those that we noted above, and may be is a difficult question to answer, but of all the work that you were part of, which ones did you like more to participate, and in which you consider that had your best performances?

Thomas: Without a doubt Therion I think. But I am never fully satisfied. But I've learned through the years that, accept and go further.Its only music! It just destroys the fun to be too picky.

RtM: And sure, about Therion, one of the bands (the best in my opinion) that better combine the Classical Music with Metal, and you fit perfectly in the band, making it difficult for a fan to imagine the band without you, and I hope we have many albums with you beside of the band. Tell us a bit how was your entering  in Therion. 

Thomas: Yeah, you have to get used to me, I dont have any plans of leaving. It all started with a telephone call. “Hi, my name is Christofer Johnson. I play in a band called Therion. Do you wanna go on worldtour?” Thats how Christofer is. Very direct. I told him, Sure, it sounds like fun. But how do you sound?? Send me something so I can listen. I never heard Therion before. I heard ABOUT them. Next day I had the whole catalogue in my mail. And the first song I ever heard was “Mitternachtslöwe”. I was blown away by it and called Christofer on the spot and told him: I AM IN!!!  

RtM: And also about the band's "family" atmosphere. We can see that this climate contributes a lot in live performances.
Thomas: When I did the first tour the atmosphere in the band was ok but a bit tensed. Some member (No names) called the fans very ugly things, and acted very unpolite which secretly made me very sad and ashamed. But I decided to have fun and I did not care a second about the grumpy feeling that was in the band. Now the spirit and atmosphere in the band is very very relaxed. We have fun, and the arguments are really few. Touring is how it should be: FUN! And I think that people can feel that when we are on stage.

RtM: Speaking of "Family", your daughter Linnéa also joined Therion. How is it for you to have her beside you on stage? I think it must be something very special and it fills you with pride. And i have to say, she is getting better as a singer and stage performer!

Thomas: I am used to have her beside me onstage now. And I am of course very proud of it. She is getting better for each year. She was actually only 18 when she did the first gig with us. That was at the bloodstock festival in England. I was more nervous than her. Me and Linnea have a very close relation. When we are on tour our relation transforms from father and daughter to collegues. Many people ask if I get jealous with all boys who hits on her on tour. Of course not. 

She is an adult now and does exactly what she wants. And now she has a steady boyfriend. The drummer in the band Dynasty that actually was the drummer in Rock Of Ages that I did for almost 2 years.  I think me and Linnea had 2 fights with eachother. First one was when she was 5 and I should teach her how to ride a bicycle, and the second time when she was 16 and asked if she could have a party in my house. I said: sure you can, but there will be ZERO alcohol, its my house and there is no need to even discuss it. I was not popular after that. But now she actually thanked me for it.

RtM: We had speak about your solo album, from 1994, do  you have plans or desire to release another solo album? Maybe with Linnéa! It would be nice!

Thomas: I am actually working on a solo project. It has the working name “CHURCH OF DECADENCE”. I am really exited about it. When or if it will come out I dont know yet. No, plans if Linnea will be in it. But...Thanks for the suggestion!

RtM: And your role in the Rock Opera "Antichrist Superstar"? What can you tell us about this work, and your expectations to perform it live?

Thomas: Its a big big project. And to tell you the truth we dont know yet how we will do it live. But in one way or another we will! 

RtM: Recently you have been back in America, through Mexico, where Therion has a large fan base, and South America, where the band is also loved. How was the impressions about that tour here in America, and how you feel about this complicity and love by fans here for Therion?

Thomas: To me the fans are everything. Without them we are nothing! Zero! And Im a social guy who honestly loves to spend time with fans outside the hotels and so on. If you are an artist that think the fans are a pain in the ass, there is plenty of Mc Donalds who needs your service. South america is very special for me/us. And a big surprise this tour was our first time in Honduras. It was really really cool and the fans were awesome. 

RtM: The tour was also special because was the Chiara’s first time here too.
Thomas: Chiara is fantastic. We actually started to lose hope to find somebody who could keep up to par with Lori Lewis. Thanks youtube that we found her. She is a great person and she is doing a great job. 

RtM: I remember you have spoken in a humorous way that was the "No Sleep Tour" with you making several shows in a few days. It should really be tiring, but I think all worth it with the reception from the fans, and to be doing what you like.

Thomas: This tour was a tour with very early flights. Sometimes you must go up like 04.00 in the morning to fly to another place. And when you arrive you must go directly to soundcheck. After the gig in Uruguay I totally lost my voice (which I almost never do) Luckily we had a day off after that and I could sleep and recover and do the remaining gigs in Brazil. If it was worth it?? Yes, 10 times around! You have to be made of a special material to love this life and I do!

RtM: And artistically speaking, do you feel you are a realized musician or have something you want in your career? What things you would also like to realize?

Thomas: I have done more than most people have done in a whole lifetime, I have visit around 45 countries and I dont know how many albums Ive been in. Am I rich?? Noo..Not really. But I am wealthy if Im speaking about what I have seen and experienced. But I always wanna try new things. I would like to do more Theatre. And If I was offered a role in a movie I would say yes without blinking.

RtM: Thomas, thanks for you time, before all, i'm a huge fan your work, and hope to see you soon and Therion here in America again (In Porto Alegre too, i hope)! I let this end space to you to send your message to the fans.
