Cobertura de Show: Picture – 23/11/2025 – Manifesto Bar/SP

Novembro está sendo um mês de celebrações! Mesmo com cancelamento do Artillery e Atrophy no Burning House no mesmo dia, o metal em São Paulo não parou e trouxe mais uma comemoração de 45 anos - após o Grave Digger na semana anterior no Carioca Club.

Desta vez, o Picture apareceu para comemorar em terras brasileiras a mesma idade de surgimento em uma passagem brilhante por São Paulo, sendo o Manifesto Bar praticamente a segunda casa do quinteto holandês (por onde fez show ano passado, além de gravar um DVD ao vivo em 2019). O público reviveu uma de suas noites mais especiais no domingo, consagrando um dos ícones absolutos do Heavy Metal europeu. 

Subiram ao palco entregando um show intenso, honesto e histórico — um daqueles eventos que lembram por que o metal clássico permanece tão vivo no Brasil. O público fiel ao estilo chegou cedo ao Manifesto Bar. 

A recente expansão da casa, agora com capacidade ampliada e som mais robusto, mostrou seu valor: a combinação de palco novo, iluminação forte e o público enérgico criou o clima ideal para uma noite de pura celebração.

Ao som nas caixas de Kashmir (Led Zeppelin) e sem grandes cerimônias, o PICTURE iniciou o show com a energia de quem nunca saiu da estrada. Com "Griffons Guard the Gold", o impacto foi imediato: guitarras afiadas, bateria firme e a presença marcante de Peter Strykes, que assumiu os vocais com autoridade absoluta. 

Sua voz, firme e melodiosa, mostrou que o frontman  estava muito bem na noite com a casa respondendo à altura! Logo nos primeiros minutos, já era possível perceber que a interação entre banda e público seria um dos pontos altos da noite.

O repertório transitou entre os clássicos que tornaram o PICTURE referência do metal europeu. Hinos antigos como “Eternal Dark”- disco que revelou a banda aos fãs brasileiros, “Lady Lightning” e “Bombers” foram recebidos como velhos amigos: refrões cantados em uníssono, braços erguidos, headbanging constante — o público brasileiro mostrou mais uma vez por que é conhecido como um dos mais apaixonados do mundo. 

Os fãs mais antigos pareciam revitalizados a cada riff familiar, enquanto os mais jovens, muitos deles vendo a banda pela primeira vez, eram carregados pela força desse heavy metal direto, sem truques, sem frescura.

A dupla de guitarristas, Len Ruygrok e Appie de Gelder, foi um espetáculo à parte. Os solos em duetos, as harmonias e os ataques sincronizados trouxeram a sensação de estar assistindo a uma verdadeira aula de metal clássico. Nada de exageros ou virtuosismo gratuito — apenas técnica, pegada e feeling. 

Na retaguarda, os veteranos Rinus Vreugdenhil (baixo) e Laurens Bakker (bateria) seguraram tudo com precisão e peso. Bakker, um dos fundadores da banda, mostrou vigor impressionante, enquanto Rinus entregou linhas sólidas que vibravam pelo chão do Manifesto que em determinado momento do show, desceu do palco foi tocar seu baixo no meio do público. 

O encerramento veio com alguns dos maiores clássicos da banda “Make You Burn” e “No No No”, levando o público ao delírio. Dezenas de vozes se uniram nos refrões, enquanto a banda tocava com a mesma energia do início do show. Quando as luzes finalmente se acenderam, ficou clara a sensação de que todos presenciaram algo único: não apenas um show, mas um marco para fãs de heavy metal tradicional.

Cobertura de Show: Odin’s Krieger Festival – 01/11/2025 – Carioca Club/SP

Odin’s Krieger Festival mistura humor com medieval em shows de Nanowar of Steel e Heidevolk

O humor italiano e o folk metal viking holandês combinam muito bem, e festival, que também contou com outras apresentações diversas nacionais, valeu a pena presenciar

O Odin’s Krieger Festival já é tradicional! Ano após ano, a festa atrai apreciadores de costumes e da cultura medieval fantástica, além de adeptos da história e mitologia nórdica, celta, e todo tipo de história e fé pagãs. Mesmo sem shows, só o encontro temático dessa ou dessas tribos já seria sensacional, mas com grandes apresentações, tudo fica melhor. Tivemos!

Embora, devo dizer, o público parecesse abaixo do que tivemos em 2024, ainda era respeitável, com mais da metade do Carioca Clube cheio. Bem, era de se esperar, já que as atrações do ano anterior eram mais populares, com Dogma e Wind Rose. Neste ano corrente, tivemos ainda um repeteco: O Heidevolk já havia estado no mesmo festival alguns anos antes.

OAKLORE FAZ TRIBUTO AO FOLK “GEEK”:

Uma aguardada atração nacional era o Oaklore, um grupo de música folclórica que já se tornou conhecido no circuito de eventos “folk”. Talvez uma das coisas mais legais deles, é que você vai se sentir “em casa” quando estiver em seus shows: grande parte de seu repertório é de temas musicais que somos acostumados a ouvir no nosso dia-a-dia (bem, ao menos quem é ligado em videogames, filmes e séries), com canções que vão de Senhor dos Anéis, uma das grandes inspirações da existência do grupo, segundo o que disseram no palco - bem, podemos compreender isso, já que o filme, do qual tocaram temas no show, é uma das maiores obras audiovisuais do gênero. Pessoalmente, fiquei extremamente emocionado ao tocarem um mix de temas de The Witcher 3, que é meu jogo preferido. Tão bem executado foi, que chegou a ser emocionante para fãs da franquia, do personagem Geralt of Rivia, e desse universo fantástico. Excelente apresentação, que serviu perfeitamente como “esquenta” para o que viria.

Vale frisar que, no meio tempo entre os shows, não há nenhum tipo de tédio! vários stands de lojas dos mais variados produtos, comuns, exóticos, artesanais, que iam de hidromel a velas aromáticas. Tem para todo tipo de público, e isso já vem de ano após ano - sempre ótimas opções, embora muitas vezes pagando um preço bem salgado.

NANOWAR OF STEEL TRAZ BOM HUMOR, HITS HILÁRIOS, E… VAMPETAÇO!:

Sejamos diretos: você nunca vai rir tanto em um show de rock quanto no do Nanowar of Steel! Conhecido recentemente pelo engraçadíssimo hit Norwegian Reggaeton, que parodia tanto o reggaeton latino, quanto o black metal norueguês, foi a primeira vez que a banda italiana esteve no Brasil, depois de muitos pedidos. Valeu a espera!

A banda entrou com o visual mais bizarramente divertido possível: cada um dos integrantes com uma fantasia mais “zoeira” que a outra, sendo o vocalista Mr. Baffo o ápice, vestido com quase um cosplay de “loli” de animes - só imagine um sujeito barbado fazendo isso, é sensacional! Apesar da zoeira, todos tocam absurdamente bem, e as músicas são executadas exatamente como deveriam.

Alguns momentos completamente absurdos fazem parte da festa. O outro vocalista, Potowotominimak colocou uma máscara do monstro Cthulhu, da obra de HP Lovecraft, durante a canção The Call of Cthulhu, com um telefone em mãos. Entenderam o trocadilho?! Ou o momento incrível quando um sujeito vestido do pássaro “malvado” Cacciatore entrou no palco, na canção Il Cacciatore della Notte. Também tivemos um “wall of love”, uma espécie de wall of death, mas onde todos se abraçam - ainda com Careless Whisper, de George Michael, de fundo, seguido pelo cover do cantor inglês da música de mesmo nome.

Mas provavelmente o momento mais sensacional do magnífico show foi quando alguém atirou uma bandeira com a foto do ex-jogador Vampeta nu, apenas com a foto de Varg Vikernes, do Burzum, tampando suas genitais, em referência ao episódio quando o dito vocalista de black metal falou mal de brasileiros no twitter, e os usuários brasileiros começaram a lhe mandar fotos do ensaio do ex-atleta para a extinta revista G Magazine - ficou conhecido como “Vampetaço”. Eles realmente exibiram aquilo no palco!

Seu grande hit, Norwegian Reggaeton, claro, foi um dos pontos mais altos. Todos sabiam cantar a música! Os sorrisos e risos eram nítidos por todos os cantos. Realmente, eles roubaram a cena, mesmo não sendo a atração principal da noite.

Entre as apresentações, tivemos uma bela apresentação de dança, que serviu muito bem de aquecimento, além de uma batalha esportiva de espadas, o que fez com que não ficasse nada cansativa a espera para o próximo show.

HEIDEVOLK FECHA A NOITE COM BOA APRESENTAÇÃO DE FOLK METAL, MAS OFUSCADA PELA ANTERIOR:

Trocamos o humor pelo verdadeiro folk metal. Diretamente da Holanda, um dos maiores celeiros de bandas bem sucedidas do mundo, o Heidevolk fazia sua segunda participação no Odin’s Krieger Festival. Claro que, pela proposta do evento, de celebrar a cultura medieval e nórdica, seriam a atração principal.

Afiada, a banda veio ao país agora divulgando seu álbum Werderkeer, e não decepcionou. O som que apresentam faz todo o sentido para o evento, e logo de começo já era ovacionada pelo público. Uma coisa bem curiosa é que apesar de fazerem um som mais rápido, onde seria comum o uso de vocais agudos, os holandeses usam dois vocalistas com vozes extremamente parecidas e graves. Por um lado, isso dá um contraste, e deixa com uma certa cara “ritualística”, mas por outro, uma das vozes acaba ficando redundante, já que não há contraste entre ambas. No fim das contas, funciona. Outro ponto interessante é o idioma; não é comum ouvirmos músicas no idioma neerlandês, mas a banda prova que pode, sim, funcionar bem, a depender do estilo.

O setlist foi conservador, mesmo longo. Tivemos, de começo, duas do último disco, como era de se esperar: Hagalaz e Klauwen Voorut. Não demorou para virem clássicos, com Winter Woede, Urth e A Wolf in my Heart. No geral, tudo muito completo, contemplando vários períodos de sua carreira.

Terminamos o show com Vulgaris Magistralis, versão para a banda de rock holandesa Normaal, e a saideira com um grande clássico, Nehalennia, do já distante ano de 2010.

Ótimo show, com belo som, e um público muito animado, e diversos mosh pits ao longo do show. Apesar do brilho, o fato do Nanowar of Steel ter feito uma apresentação inédita e extremamente divertida, que roubou a cena, ficou parecendo que quem deveria ter sido a atração final eram eles. De toda forma, o conjunto de ambas foi muito bom, e tudo foi muito bem aproveitado. Ambas bandas já têm um lugar no coração dos brasileiros, e podem voltar a qualquer momento, que será uma boa pedida de show!

Interview: Blackbriar: "Powerful and Mystical Melodic Metal"

There is no surprise how much the Netherlands revealed names of quality and importance to the Metal scene, especially from the late 90s, also revealing a list of female singers who are also among the most important names in the scene, like Anneke Van Giersbergen, Floor Jansen, Simone Simons, Charlotte Wessels and Sharon Den Adel, to name a few, and a newer generation of bands and singers also follows the natural way of things and begin to build their own history.


From Assen, the Blackbriar, band of the singer Zora Cock, is another promising emerging band that are already fighting for their space. Formed in 2012, the band has been working hard, releasing singles and is preparing ground for their first full-length, and Zora tells us a bit more about the band, wich sound she describes as "melodic metal, mystic and powerful." Check out the interview right now :

RtM: To begin with, I would like you to tell us a little about how the band started the activities?

Zora Cock: I met René (Drums) at the music college we both attended and we started a project together. The music we made was fairly dark pop-music, influenced by Kate Bush. A couple of years later, we were at a show where Slash headlined and Halestorm was the support act. Halestorm completely blew our minds and triggered us into making harder music.

Together, we wrote and recorded two songs (I Like The Taste & Creatures of the Night). These first two songs sounded so good to us that we decided to go and look for other band members. Bart was the first we crossed paths with. We had never met him, but knew him from other bands he played in. After the first meeting Bart introduced a friend of his (Rene S.) to the band, to play the bass.

The four of us started rehearsing together, but soon we thought that we needed a second guitar player to make out songs more complete. Although Rene S. played the bass, he really is a guitar player. Rene S. introduced Frank to the band to play the bass, and that’s how our line-up was formed, in February 2012.

RtM: And how would you describe the sound of Blackbriar for people who do not know the band?

ZC: Blackbriar's music is best described as 'Melodic Metal' it’s powerful, mystical  and mostly unique.

RtM: And what are the major musical influences of the band? I see that you bring a lot of inspiration from the pioneers of Gothic Metal bands but also bring something fresh, a modern sound, emotional and intense.

ZC: Kate Bush has been a great source of inspiration to me. Her singing style, lyrics and melody have had a great influence on my writing.

Modern metal bands such as Periphery, In This Moment and Textures have been a great source of inspiration to Blackbriar’s band members. These bands have an incredible sound and their songs are amazing

RtM: You recently released a video for the song “Until Eternity”. Talk to us a little more about this song and thevideo's production?

ZC: First of all, the recording of the audio for this song was a bitch. We rented a studio for a weekend and had a hard time getting it all together. This studio was not operational at all, and we basically had to rebuild it from the ground up. Fortunately, we managed without losing too much sleep.

The script for the video and arranging everything has been hard work, but well worth the effort.

Until Eternity is about a  never ending love between two people, that find each other in every life they live. The song is inspired by Lauren Kate’s book.

Doing this particular video has been a good learning experience which will be useful to us in the future.

RtM: And how you have felt the receptivity of the public to this music and video? 

ZC: From the moment we uploaded the video on YouTube and social media it all went fast. Many people shared the video and by now it has been watched quite a lot. Reactions to the video have been very positive.

RtM: The band is now preparing a full-length? How are the recordings, the album will be produced by the band? And do you already have a release date?

ZC: We are preparing an EP for now. We do have plenty of material to fill a full length album, but we're not satisfied with it as it is yet.  No release date has been set, but we are aiming for early February!

RtM: Do youu want to release the album independently or already have proposal from some label?

ZC: Independently is most likely.

RtM: What about you Zora? Tell us how you began your career in music, your influences and inspirations?

ZC: After secondary school I went to music college for 4 years. I experimented with lots of different styles of music because I didn’t really know what I wanted. At school, I met Rene and we made two albums together. It wasn’t Metal, but they were dark pop songs. Soon after, we started Blackbriar and I finally found what I was looking for.

A couple of my influences are Kate bush, Lana Del Rey, In This Moment, Halestorm, Flyleaf..and I mostly get my inspiration from books, music, or my own experiences.

Zora, thanks for your attention, we hope to talk again soon your EP to be released! I let the final space to you to send a message to the readers!

Phantasma: A Little Piece of Art

"Allow yourself to be transported to another world by the Phantasma" is how initiates the release of this project led by the trio Georg Neuhauser (Serenity), Oliver Philipps (Everon) and Charlotte Wessels (Delain), and was a very happy phrase to present this debut titled "Deviant Hearts", because it is impossible not even be involved by the beauty and the good taste of the compositions.

The sound we can said that is between the Symphonic Metal and Symphonic Rock, with those theatrical nuances, with an air of "musicals", as Meat Loaf style, for example, but we found something of Queen, and even  Savatage and Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

The project was already a long time ambition of Geog Neuhauser, and the driving force was complemented by the other two components, plus some special guests playing characters of history, which is conceptual and based on the novel written by Charlotte exclusively for the project, and production (amazing!), was cortesy of Oliver (who is also a multi-instrumentalist).

So how promises that initial sentence of the release, the listener is transported to another world, involved by the history and musical score, in intense songs with beautiful arrangements and catchy and memorable melodies. Personally, I can say that the trio of composers got their intention, creating a beautiful piece of music, very tasteful, and the album was involved from beginning to end! I cant' stop to listent to it, since i have received the album from Napalm records.

Charlotte made a fantastic job, a true "Diva",  and also fully in agreement with what the release says, she is free as the wind, exploring various possibilities of her voice, showing that she is a singer and interpreter who has a capacity beyond what we already knew in her work with Delain and I believe to be a watershed for her this album, she's now on another level.

 The journey through this beautiful musical piece starts with "Incomplete", which serves as an introduction, bringing a duet between Charlotte and Georg, accompanied by beautiful melodies at the piano, in these first few minutes you already feel like you're in for something different, for then "Deviant Hearts", the title track that starts and already it holds the listener immediately, with its beautiful arrangements and melodies. Symphonic, intense and climate, with great interpretations of Charlotte and the guest Tom Englund (Evergrey), already bringing this climate of Musicals (like Brodway or Meat Loaf).

 Soon after "Runaway Gray" comes...beautiful, symphonyc and theatrical, in a great voice acting and an irresistible chorus, and barely giving you time to catch your breath, and the desire to go back and listen to the first songs again is downgraded to the first seconds of the beautiful ballad "Try", with a fantastic interpretation of Charlotte, highlighting deep and emotional vocal lines. One of the best ballads that i have heard in years.

 Are high-level songs, while the story is being told, and what comes first is the intense sound and beautiful and memorable melodies, interpretations full of feeling of Charlotte and Georg, do not expect songs with a lot of weight and speed although we can find moments with more "punch" on guitars and drums, as the tense "Enter Dreamscape" and "Novaturient" with its changes of tempo and faster drums.

The album production have an excellence, and the compositions are top-notch, but there are highlights, and togheter with "Runaway Gray" and "Try", are many great songs such as "Miserable Me ", which also won a video, is perhaps one of the most theatrical songs; "Carry Me Home" and its melodies that convey a sense of peace and well being, great duets and soft melodies, culminating in a memorable chorus! Be attention to the care in the production, as the arrangements fulfill, overlapping voices in the pre-chorus and chorus brings a very beautiful result. To cause chills! This song and "Runaway Gray" and "Try", I believe they are the ones with the most memorable choruses.

But then we also have "Crimson Curse" with its symphonic intensity, keyboards and markable guitar licks, plus a beautiful vocal duet; the softness of "The Lotus and the Willow" and "The Sound of Fear", another beautiful ballad with beautiful vocal melodies, inspired and melodic solo on guitar, a song in the style of Meat Loaf. The exciting "Let it Die", which closes the album, and, well, as you noticed, i have even tried out to talk about some songs, but it would be unfair  to mention just this or that.

Highly recommended, good taste, musicality, feeling and memorable melodies in songs that combine softness and strength, bringing this "Musical's" atmosphere and, as promised in the presentation of the project, transporting us to another world. I hope the Phantasma project do not stop in only one album and the members find time to produce more music like that contained in "Deviant Hearts". And this is the side that excites and involves those who like to listen to music, always show up for work by musicians who regard it seriously, like art, and this album is a piece of art.
