Se tem uma coisa que o Metalite sabe fazer muito bem é misturar o metal melódico com elementos modernos sem deixar o peso de lado. Formada na Suécia em 2015, a banda vem construindo sua identidade dentro do power metal moderno, acrescentando sintetizadores, elementos eletrônicos e atmosferas cinematográficas. Não é por acaso que o grupo é considerado um dos pioneiros do moderno sci-fi inspired power metal.
Em Discovery, essa proposta aparece ainda mais forte. O conceito futurista e de ficção científica é bastante ousado e está presente não apenas nas letras, mas também na própria sonoridade. Comparando com os trabalhos anteriores, sinto que a banda foi ainda mais fundo nessa ideia de unir o metal melódico aos elementos eletrônicos.
E isso já fica muito claro na primeira faixa, “Our Time Has Come”. A música é explosiva e grandiosa do começo ao fim e resume muito bem o que vamos encontrar pela frente. “In Case of Emergency” segue praticamente a mesma linha, mantendo aquela energia que parece feita para funcionar muito bem ao vivo.
Nos vocais, Erica Ohlsson realmente rouba a cena. A técnica vocal é impecável e ela consegue acompanhar toda a grandiosidade das músicas sem perder clareza ou potência. Para mim, ela é a grande estrela de Discovery.
Também gostei bastante do trabalho instrumental. A bateria de Erik Junttila mantém o álbum sempre em movimento, enquanto Edwin Premberg, nas guitarras, entrega solos bem construídos e momentos que acrescentam ainda mais peso às músicas.
Falando em produção, aqui não tem muito o que reclamar. A mixagem e a masterização ficaram por conta de Jacob Hansen, produtor conhecido por trabalhos com bandas como Amaranthe e Evergrey, e o resultado é realmente impecável. Tudo soa muito limpo, moderno e grandioso, mas sem tirar o protagonismo das guitarras e dos vocais.
Em “Into the Maze”, por exemplo, temos uma faixa mais pesada, com um ótimo solo de guitarra. Já “Echoes of You” começa com piano e traz uma atmosfera um pouco diferente, menos acelerada. É uma das faixas que mais me chamou atenção justamente por conseguir quebrar um pouco a velocidade do álbum sem perder sua identidade.
“Starchild” é provavelmente uma das músicas mais eletrônicas do disco. É dançante, moderna e tem uma energia quase impossível de ignorar, mas continua mantendo o peso do metal. É justamente esse tipo de combinação que faz o Metalite funcionar tão bem.
Outra que gostei bastante foi “Wings of Fire”. A faixa mantém a pegada moderna, mas acrescenta elementos de hard rock, criando um dos momentos mais equilibrados do álbum. A música consegue te transportar para um grande festival. O solo de guitarra também dá um brilho especial à faixa, que, para mim, é uma das melhores do disco.
“Metal Elite” também merece destaque e mantém a energia que encontramos ao longo de Discovery. Já “Triforce”, escolhida para fechar o álbum, funciona muito bem como encerramento porque permanece fiel à proposta tanto musicalmente quanto no conceito futurista.
No geral, Discovery é um disco muito energético. São 12 faixas com bastante eletrônica, refrões explosivos e grandiosos e uma produção extremamente moderna. Confesso que senti falta de um pouco mais de espaço para desacelerar em alguns momentos, talvez uma balada, mas também entendo que essa velocidade constante faz parte da proposta.
Para mim, o Metalite conseguiu entregar exatamente o que se propôs a fazer. Discovery é ousado, ambicioso e muito bem produzido, sendo um prato cheio para quem gosta de power metal melódico e não se incomoda em ver o gênero flertando bastante com a música eletrônica e a estética futurista.
É um disco que parece ter sido feito para ser ouvido alto — e, principalmente, para ser levado para o palco. Eu consigo imaginar facilmente esses refrões enormes sendo cantados por uma plateia inteira.

If there’s one thing Metalite knows how to do really well, it’s mixing melodic metal with modern elements without losing its heaviness. Formed in Sweden in 2015, the band has been building its own identity within modern power metal, adding synthesizers, electronic elements and cinematic atmospheres. It’s no coincidence that the band is considered one of the pioneers of modern sci-fi-inspired power metal.
On Discovery, this approach becomes even stronger. The futuristic and science-fiction concept is quite bold and can be felt not only in the lyrics, but also throughout the music itself. Compared to their previous releases, I feel the band has gone even further with the idea of bringing melodic metal and electronic elements together.
This becomes clear right from the opening track, “Our Time Has Come”. The song is explosive and grand from beginning to end, and it sums up very well what we’re about to experience. “In Case of Emergency” follows pretty much the same path, keeping that energy that feels like it was made to work really well on stage.
When it comes to the vocals, Erica Ohlsson really steals the show. Her vocal technique is impeccable, and she manages to keep up with all the grandeur of the songs without losing clarity or power. For me, she is the real star of Discovery.
I also really enjoyed the instrumental work. Erik Junttila’s drumming keeps the album constantly moving, while Edwin Premberg delivers well-crafted guitar solos and moments that add even more weight to the songs.
And when it comes to the production, there isn’t much to complain about. The mixing and mastering were handled by Jacob Hansen, a producer known for his work with bands such as Amaranthe and Evergrey, and the result is truly flawless. Everything sounds clean, modern and grand, without taking the spotlight away from the guitars and vocals.
In “Into the Maze”, for example, we get a heavier track with a great guitar solo. “Echoes of You”, on the other hand, opens with piano and brings a slightly different atmosphere, slowing things down a bit. It’s one of the tracks that caught my attention the most precisely because it manages to break up the album’s constant pace without losing its identity.
“Starchild” is probably one of the most electronic songs on the album. It’s danceable, modern and has an energy that’s almost impossible to ignore, while still keeping the weight of metal. This is exactly the kind of combination that makes Metalite work so well.
Another track I really enjoyed is “Wings of Fire”. It keeps the modern approach but brings in some hard rock elements, creating one of the most balanced moments on the album. The song can easily transport you to a huge festival. The guitar solo also gives the track an extra spark and, for me, makes it one of the best songs on the album.
“Metal Elite” also deserves a mention, keeping up the energy we find throughout Discovery. “Triforce,” chosen to close the album, works really well as a finale because it stays true to the album’s proposal both musically and conceptually, especially with its futuristic theme.
Overall, Discovery is a very energetic album. Across its 12 tracks, we get plenty of electronics, explosive and grand choruses, and an extremely modern production. I have to admit that I sometimes missed having a little more room to slow things down, maybe with a ballad, but I also understand that this constant energy is part of the album’s identity.
For me, Metalite delivers exactly what they set out to do. Discovery is bold, ambitious and very well produced, making it a great choice for anyone who enjoys melodic power metal and doesn’t mind seeing the genre flirt heavily with electronic music and futuristic aesthetics.
This is an album that feels like it was made to be played loud — and, most importantly, to be taken to the stage. I can easily imagine those huge choruses being sung by an entire crowd.
