Os veteranos norte-americanos do Axemaster chegam com sua carreira já consolidada desde dos anos 80, e dentro de sua história o projeto teve pausas, inclusive mudando temporariamente de nome e direcionamento musical na década de 1990 e 2000, se apresentando sob os nomes de “The Awakening” e “Inner Terror” antes de retornar em definitivo como Axemaster.
Nesse álbum, “Of Beasts and Plagues”, a banda apresenta uma sonoridade bem eclética, incorporando inúmeros estilos e facilmente transitando entre as músicas.
O quarteto está afiadissimo, e tem como propósito honrar suas raízes ligadas ao US Metal, mesclando o heavy metal tradicional, thrash metal e pitadas de doom metal, da escola de nomes como Candlemass, mas sem soar datada, pois também carrega elementos modernos.
No quesito à parte lírica, os assuntos tratados são bem estruturados, já que são quatro décadas moldando uma sonoridade sombria, marcada por temas medievais, de fantasia e batalhas entre a luz e a escuridão.
Analisando cada composição com a audição aguçada, cada faixa carrega consigo uma precisão de detalhes que fazem toda a diferença.
Já de início temos a introdução com a música "The Plagues Among Us....” com instrumental macabro nos preparando para o que viria na sequência com a “Murder Of Crows”, uma faixa bem bacana que tem uma linha instrumental bem cadenciada e vocais cortantes e teatrais, inclusive com partes em que me surpreendeu pela sonoridade super agressiva.
Seria literalmente chover no molhado dizer que nas demais faixas encontramos uma coerente massa sonora, a qual merece várias audições, então como sugestão provocarei aos leitores que ouçam “The Dark Side”, "Kissed With A Fist” e a épica “Dagon Rising” como destaques de um álbum que já tem espaço em minha playlist, e com certeza agradará aos old-School Metalheads!

Axemaster: Honoring their Roots

The veteran American band Axemaster arrives with a career already consolidated since the 80s, and within its history the project has had pauses, including temporarily changing its name and musical direction in the 1990s and 2000s, performing under the names "The Awakening" and "Inner Terror" before definitively returning as Axemaster.
In this album, "Of Beasts and Plagues," the band presents a very eclectic sound, incorporating numerous styles and easily transitioning between songs.
The quartet is razor-sharp, and aims to honor its roots linked to US Power Metal, blending traditional heavy metal, thrash metal, and hints of doom metal, from the school of names like Candlemass, but without sounding dated, as it also carries modern elements.
In terms of lyrics, the themes are well-structured, as four decades have shaped a dark sound, marked by medieval themes, fantasy, and battles between light and darkness.
Analyzing each composition with a keen ear, each track carries a precision of detail that makes all the difference.
From the start, we have the introduction with the song "The Plagues Among Us..." with a macabre instrumental preparing us for what would come next with "Murder Of Crows," a very cool track that has a well-paced instrumental line and sharp, theatrical vocals, including parts that surprised me with their super aggressive sound.
It would be stating the obvious to say that the other tracks contain a coherent sonic mass that deserves multiple listens, so I suggest that readers listen to "The Dark Side," "Kissed With A Fist," and the epic "Dragon Rising" as highlights of an album that already has a place on my playlist and will surely please old-school metalheads!
Everything in this work deserves attention, so stop what you're doing and listen!
