Após dois ótimos singles lançados em 2025, o Forbidden já sinalizava um disco completo, apontava que o álbum já estava pronto nesse período e começaram uma forte turnê 2025/2026 para apresentar essas músicas ao público algo novo até que pudessem lançar um full length neste ano.
O disco é auto entitulado, são 11 faixas no total após de 16 anos do último álbum completo, “Omega Wave” de 2010, um distanciamento de 13 anos de seu antecessor “Green” de 1997 . Talvez seja uma estratégia da banda demorar mais tempo para lançar algo e alcançar novas experiências, experimentações e colocar o público antigo com o atual nas composições, como é o caso novamente deste que está prestes a ser lançado. A começar pela ótima capa chamativa, sempre duas cores bem destacadas e logotipo clássico, trouxe aquela temática da referência na dualidade em forças opostas.
Entrando no álbum, o Forbbiden faz jus ao DNA da banda que é começar bem o disco e abrir na pancada; “Single Point Failure” evoca a principal característica dos caras na execução do Thrash Metal no contratempo, ponto principal na composição nos anos oitenta marcado pela bateria de Paul Bostaph, hoje, assegurado por Chris Kontos aos 58 anos. O som se mantém até o final no modo “feito na escola” com riffs bem construídos, solos e técnica apurada do antológico Craig Locicero, juntamente ao novo guitarrista Jeremy Von Epp e o baixo do também veterano Matt Camacho dobrando tudo. Os vocais de Norman Skinner, já expondo o disco como todo, sobem o nível numa técnica do agressivo ao melódico, remetendo o passado quando necessário e explorando outras linhas mais agudas levando o som pra outros caminhos. Seguindo, “Burning The Lungs of Earth” continua no mesmo tom; os singles “Divided By Zero” e “Mutually Assured Dys-function” estão muito bem no disco intercaladas entre a sequência das músicas, bem posicionadas no álbum para o ouvinte ter a sensação sempre pulsante, escolhidas como carro-chefe da divulgação são pontos altos entre as melhores. Destaque também para “Psyclops” com clipe de divulgação, “Sycophantasy”, “The Burden” e fecham com a extensa “Flower of Life (Chaos By Design)” de nove minutos.
A postura do Forbbiden de trazer novos elementos, talvez não agrade totalmente o fã das antigas, mesmo algumas músicas lembrando aquela fase espetacular dos primeiros discos. Por terem uma discografia com poucos álbuns na carreira e espaçamentos com mais de 10 anos entre eles é inquestionável a evolução por parte do processo dos músicos. A dualidade da capa justificam as músicas, fazer uma passagem do passado para o presente e o que está por vir, sem perder a essência. Ter um disco novo em 2026 de uma banda clássica que atravessa dois séculos como Forbidden é uma vitória na história do Metal global; trazer novo público sem perder o antigo, formar novas bandas, continuarem tocando de forma hipnotizante pra darem continuidade nesse legado vem deixando ao longo dos anos.

After two great singles released in 2025, Forbidden had already signaled that a full-length album was on the way. The band indicated that the album was already completed by that time and embarked on a strong 2025/2026 tour to introduce these new songs to the audience, until they could finally release a full-length album this year.
The album is self-titled and features 11 tracks, arriving 16 years after the band's last full-length, Omega Wave (2010), and following a 13-year gap from its predecessor, Green (1997). Perhaps taking longer to release new material is the band's strategy for gaining new experiences, exploring different ideas, and bringing the old and current audiences together through the compositions, as is once again the case with this upcoming release. It starts with a striking cover, featuring two strongly contrasting colors and the classic logo, bringing back the theme of duality and the idea of opposing forces.
Moving into the album itself, Forbidden lives up to the band's DNA of starting strong and hitting hard from the very beginning. “Single Point Failure” evokes one of the band's main characteristics: their execution of Thrash Metal through off-beat rhythms, a key element of their songwriting in the eighties, marked by Paul Bostaph's drumming and now carried by 58-year-old Chris Kontos. The sound remains true to the end, following a classic “old-school” approach with well-crafted riffs, solos, and the refined technique of legendary guitarist Craig Locicero, alongside new guitarist Jeremy Von Epp and veteran bassist Matt Camacho, who doubles everything up. Norman Skinner's vocals, already standing out throughout the album, take things to another level, ranging from aggressive to melodic, recalling the band's past when necessary while exploring higher vocal lines and taking the sound in new directions.
Next, “Burning The Lungs of Earth” continues in the same vein. The singles “Divided By Zero” and “Mutually Assured Dysfunction” fit very well into the album, strategically placed throughout the tracklist to keep the listener's experience constantly pulsating. Chosen as the main tracks for the promotional campaign, they are among the album's highlights. Other standouts include “Psyclops”, which also received a promotional video, “Sycophantasy”, “The Burden” and the extended nine minute closer, “Flower of Life (Chaos By Design)”.
Forbidden willingness to introduce new elements may not fully satisfy longtime fans, even though some songs recall the spectacular early years of the band. Given their relatively small discography and the gaps of more than 10 years between albums, the band's musical evolution is undeniable. The duality represented on the cover reflects the music itself: a transition from the past to the present and what lies ahead, without losing its essence.
Having a new album from a classic band like Forbidden in 2026, a band whose history spans two centuries, is a victory for the global history of Metal. Bringing in a new audience without losing the old one, inspiring new bands, and continuing to perform in such a hypnotic way are all part of the legacy Forbidden has been building and carrying forward over the years.
