Tellus Terror: A Vitória do Mixed Metal Styles

O Tellus Terror surgiu com uma proposta complexa, tanto na parte sonora como nos temas da letras, e logo de primeira, talvez não seja fácil digerir o Metal praticado pelo grupo, é fato que tudo que é novo e diferente vai causar certa surpresa de início, mas a qualidade é que vai ditar onde essa novidade vai chegar, e no caso do Tellus Terror o impacto é extremamente positivo, e a proposta da banda recebeu, e vem recebendo, muitos elogios, por parte de público e imprensa especializada.  (English Version HERE)

Denominando sua sonoridade com o rótulo M.M.S. (Mixed Metal Styles), a fim de passar uma ideia  da liberdade que a banda possui em criar sua música, deixando a criatividade fluir, transitando pelo Metal em geral, com peso, extremismo, complexidade e melodia. O resultado pode ser conferido no seu debut com "EZ Life DV8" (2014), álbum conceitual e complexo, mostrando a proposta da banda, que é essa liberdade musical e tratar de temas 100% comuns a humanidade, independente de classe social, raça, credo ou religião.

Felipe Borges, vocalista e compositor, conversou com o Road e falamos, entre outros assuntos, sobre a excelente repercussão do álbum de estreia, um pouco mais a respeito do seu conceito, e ainda sobre o novo trabalho que está em processo de composição. Confira!

RtM: Passado algum tempo do lançamento de "EZ Life DV8", como você analisa os resultados obtidos com o álbum, o qual recebeu muitas resenhas positivas aqui e lá fora, inclusive sendo citado em várias listas de melhores do ano?

Felipe Borges: A visão que tenho sobre isso, é que realmente funciona quando uma banda trabalha duro, e se dedica a criar um álbum de Metal, que se tornou parte da nossa história Brasileira com o Metal, assim como milhares de outras bandas fizeram, fazem e farão. Tudo isso é bem bacana, e me traz a sensação de querer trabalhar mais e mais, e isso está refletindo no novo álbum que estamos compondo.

RtM: Quanto a elogiada temática do álbum, o que o levou a optar por esse tema, que é, claro, algo que intriga bastante a humanidade, essas questões de onde viemos, para onde vamos, estamos sozinhos no universo...etc? E que tipo de pesquisa e material você se cercou para realizar as composições, sendo um tema tão extenso e complexo?

Felipe Borges: Quando eu fui acionado por dois ex membros da banda a pensar em criar uma banda de Metal extremo, a primeira coisa que falei foi:

- Só vou criar uma banda e voltar a cantar, se for para falar de coisas que sejam 100% comuns as pessoas, independente da religião delas, classe social, raça, opção sexual etc...

E daí eu criei o nome Tellus Terror (Tellus é planeta Terra em Latim), para viabilizar essa base que eu tinha em mente de temáticas. O álbum "EZ Life DV8", eu planejei toda a temática desde o início da banda, passei a ler sobre alguns assuntos que afetaram e afetam o nosso planeta etc... e o produto final foi esse. Uma viagem incontestável que iguala todos os seres Humanos pelo simples fato de morarmos aqui. 
Um álbum ("EZ Life DV8"), que ao meu ver, mostra o quanto um Sheik da Arábia e um Mendigo da Central do Brasil tem em comum, e que nós não somos nada perto da imensidão que há planeta afora no cosmos.

RtM: E para quem ainda está conhecendo a banda, e a partir daqui está tendo contato com o Tellus Terror, gostaria que você resumisse o conceito do álbum, e também falasse sobre a sonoridade da banda para o leitor que a está conhecendo agora.

Felipe Borges: O conceito do "EZ Life DV8" (Leiam “Easy Life Deviate”), começa falando sobre como tudo começou, conforme o entendimento da nossa espécie, falando sobre como os universos, galáxias, planetas e formas de vida foram criadas, sobre o que a nossa espécie faz com o Planeta, retratando fenômenos naturais surpreendentes como o Equinócio, refletindo sobre como seria o Panorama do fim dos tempos, até a conclusão de que atualmente a nossa raça não é capaz de determinar como será o nosso fim ou futuro.

No meio do conceito, eu tive a ideia tambem de criar uma música fantasiosa chamada "Brain Technology Part 1" (This Is Where It Starts...), onde ao longo dos álbuns lançados, eu sempre farei a sequência da Brain Technology, contando uma história à parte.

Eu também imaginava uma banda onde nada prendesse o processo de composição, pois temas complexos, necessitam de músicas complexas no que se diz, a não usar somente um estilo, mas sim, usar de todos os estilos de Metal, e com isso eu tive a ideia do M.M.S. (Mixed Metal Styles).

RtM: Dentro do tema tratado no álbum, qual desses "enigmas" em especial mais lhe fascinam?

Felipe Borges: Em especial pensar sobre o que há além do universo... se nós somos como pequenos átomos vivendo em algum corpo gigante, se nosso universo faz parte na verdade de um multiverso, onde eles formam um corpo celeste muito além do que podemos sequer imaginar, ou se algum dia alguma espécie mais desenvolvida do que nós, virá nos visitar, e contar sobre coisas inimagináveis...Por que estamos aqui? Por que existimos?

RtM: E dada a extensão do tema, você pensa em dar uma continuidade nos próximos álbuns?

Felipe Borges: Esse segundo álbum que estamos compondo, é completamente diferente do primeiro, em termos de conceito. Ele será conceitual e cronológico, trazendo uma outra temática muito forte e que eu nunca vi sendo abordada antes por uma banda de extremo. Espero que vocês gostem!

RtM: Tocando no assunto do novo álbum, o que mais pode adiantar a respeito dele? Pode nos dar algum "spoiler"? hehehe!!

Felipe Borges: Sim. Estamos no processo de composição do novo álbum, e o mesmo terá 12 faixas, seguindo o mesmo estilo do primeiro álbum, porem muito mais desenvolvido e maduro. Posso garantir que está ficando muito bom!

Uma dica do que será abordado de forma conceitual e fonológica, é que ele mostrará claramente como coisas tão boas e sinceras podem se tornar os seus piores temores quando em excesso ou mal interpretados etc...

RtM: E a respeito do rótulo Mixed Metal Styles que vocês utilizaram para definir a sonoridade do Tellus Terror (afinal todo mundo adora procurar rotular as bandas - e até é compreensível, para haver uma referência-  então vocês já facilitaram, he he he!) , essa questão causou curiosidade? Como você sentiu que o pessoal recebeu e entendeu a proposta?

Felipe Borges: Esse rótulo criado causou bastante curiosidade, e assim que lancei essa ideia, fomos muito criticados e pouco elogiados.

Mas nos mantivemos firmes nessa escolha, e aos poucos as pessoas começaram a entender e passaram a gostar inclusive.

 Cheguei a receber mensagens dizendo que isso era babaquice de adolescente, e a minha resposta foi simples:

- Prefiro brincar de adolescente babaca, seguir em frente sempre, e mostrar meu trabalho, do que ser um fracassado que morreu na estrada e agora fica sentado ás sombras resmungando, e que não faz porra nenhuma para ninguém. Vá a merda! Para mim só vence quem persiste e batalha sem olhar para trás!

RtM: Diante de tanta oferta, tantas bandas que surgem, as facilidades dos canais disponibilizados na internet, que fatores você acha que são cruciais para uma banda buscar seu lugar e se destacar no cenário?

Felipe Borges: Essa pergunta é bem interessante e ao mesmo tempo dá vez a uma opinião que eu tenho, que se você fizer mais do mesmo, as pessoas vão cada vez mais notar que o que era novo e original agora é velho e se repete, e vão buscar novidades. Isso é parte da evolução natural das coisas.

Busque ser original, tenha influências boas como das bandas de Metal da década de 80, 90 até as mais atuais, e crie o seu próprio som usando todas essas bases porém visando o futuro. Sem dúvida você se destacará na multidão, MAS o principal!! Se dediquem a musica de verdade, pensem se vocês realmente amam o que fazem, e se dediquem sem pensar em parar ou desistir.

Todos somos capazes por igual, mas só cresce quem luta!

RtM: E como você vê esse cenário? É possível, ou um dia será viável viver apenas do trabalho com uma banda de Metal hoje em dia? Alguns poucos conseguiram. O que falta para mais bandas atingirem um status maior?

Felipe Borges: Falta profissionalismo!

Viver o Underground é legal, mas profissionalizar o underground é essencial para sermos vistos com bons olhos nos países lá fora, onde o Metal é tratado de forma profissional.

 Aqui temos alguns produtores merdas que queimam nosso nome lá fora, temos bandas arrumando confusão com outras bandas por banalidades, público que só falta dar o rabo para banda que vem de fora, só pelo fato de ser gringa.

Chamo isso de síndrome do sem cultura, que inconscientemente pensa que se der apoio total ao que vem de fora, ele será diferente. Arrume a sua própria casa para viver melhor porra! A casa dos gringos já está brilhando porra! Apoie o que está aqui caralho!

Ensaios para o novo álbum

RtM: Aquela coisa de viver ainda uma "síndrome de vira-latas", na ideia que tudo que vem de fora é melhor.

Felipe Borges: Temos também os que só vão aos shows de banda gringa, porque realmente eles acham que as bandas locais são uma bosta e ele quer ver show de qualidade. O fato é que as bandas do Brasil são boas pra caralho. O que fode as bandas são os produtores safados e filhos da puta que nem um pão com mortadela querem dar para as bandas. Só querem dinheiro da bilheteria e ir embora.

Como que uma banda vai ter um bom som, com um Backline de merda, que nem mendigo da Europa aceitaria como esmola? Poucos são os que prestam aqui no nosso país.

Quando um produtor faz a porra do show decentemente, o show lota, fica foda, os equipos são foda, as bandas detonam no palco e ganham cachê, o público bebe pra caralho, vomitam no banheiro felizes de estarem ali, curtem pra caralho, se divertem até altas madrugadas, vão pra casa trepar e dormem felizes. É simples!

RtM: Além do Tellus Terror, muitas bandas criativas vêm surgindo, sendo difícil rotular algumas, chegando naquela conclusão que é melhor chamar todas simplesmente de Metal. Que bandas novas vêm chamando sua atenção e porquê? Você procura ouvir e busca conhecer novas bandas?

Felipe Borges: Temos tantas bandas novas, e excelentes, que buscam sua própria sonoridade dentro do Metal, que fica até dificil destacar algumas. São várias! Todas as que entram em contato, e compartilham seus materiais eu escuto, e passo a admirar o trabalho delas.

Tellus Terror: The Victory of the Mixed Metal Styles

                         

The brazilian band Tellus Terror, founded in 2012, came up with a complex proposal, both in the sound part as the themes of the lyrics, and then first, it may not be easy to digest the Metal music practiced by the group, is a fact that everything is new and different will cause some early surprise, but the quality is the thing that going to dictate where this new things will come, and in the case of Tellus Terror the impact is extremely positive, and the proposal of the band has received many compliments from the public and the specialized press.

RtM: The album "EZ Life DV8" was released in august of 2014,  as you analyze the results obtained from it, which has received many positive reviews not only in Brazil, but in other countries, including being mentioned in several lists of the best album of the year?

Felipe Borges: The vision I have about it is that actually works when a band works hard and is dedicated to creating an Metal’s album, which became part of our Brazilian history with the metal, as well as thousands of other bands did, they do and will do. All this is very cool, and gives me the feeling of wanting to work more and more, and this is reflected in the new album we're writing.

RtM: And about the lyrics ? What the reasons that led you to choose this theme, which is, of course, something quite intriguing humanity, those issues where we came from, where we go, we are alone in the universe ... etc? And what kind of research and stuff you surrounded to perform the compositions being a subject so extensive and complex?

Felipe Borges: When I was driven by two former band members to think of creating an extreme metal band, the first thing I said was:

- I'll just create a band and to sing again, if it is to talk about things that people are 100% common, regardless of their religion, social class, race, sexual orientation etc ...

So I created the name Tellus Terror (Tellus is planet Earth in Latin), to enable this themes that I had in mind. The album EZ Life DV8, I planned the whole issue from the beginning of the band, I started to read about some issues that have affected and affect our planet etc ... and the final product was this. An undeniable trip that equals all human beings simply because we live here. An album that in my view, shows how much a Sheik of Arabia and Brazil's Central Beggar have in common, and we are nowhere near the immensity there around the planet in the cosmos.

                                      

RtM: And for those who are still getting to know the band, and from here you are having contact with the Tellus Terror, would you sum up the concept of the album, and also talk about the sound of the band to the reader that is knowing Tellus Terror now.

Felipe Borges: The concept of EZ Life DV8 (Read "Easy Life Deviate"), begins talking about how it all started, as the understanding of Noss species, talking about how the universes, galaxies, planets and life forms were created on the that our species makes the planet, portraying amazing natural phenomena such as Equinox, reflecting on how would the Panorama of the end times, to the conclusion that today our RAC is unable to determine how it will be our purpose or future.

In the middle of the concept, I had the idea also to create a fantasy song called "Brain Technology Part 1" (This Is Where It Starts ...), where over the albums released, I will always do the following Brain Technology, telling a story apart.

I also imagined a band where nothing arrest the writing process, because complex issues require complex music in what is said, not to use only one style, but rather, use all metal styles, and so I had to MMS idea (Mixed Metal Styles).

RtM: And with a theme so complex, you think of giving continuity to it in the next albums?

Felipe Borges: This second album we're writing is completely different from the first, in terms of concept. It will be conceptual and chronological, bringing another very strong theme and I've never seen before being approached by an extreme band. Hope you like it!

RtM: And talking about this new album, wich is being prepared, what you can tell us in advance about it? Can you give us some "spoiler"? hahaha!!

Felipe Borges: Yes. We are in the new album writing process, and it will have 12 tracks, following the same style of the first album, however much more developed and mature. I can ensure you are getting very good!

A hint of what will be dealt with conceptual and cfonológica way, is that it clearly shows how good and sincere things can become your worst fears when excessive or misinterpreted etc ...
                          

RtM: Within the subject covered on the album, which of these "puzzles" in particular more fascinate you?

Felipe Borges: In particular think about what is beyond the universe ... if we are as small atoms living in some giant body, if our universe is actually part of a multiverse, where they form a celestial body beyond what we can even imagine, or if ever some more developed species that we go to visit us, and tell of unimaginable things ... Why are we here? Why do we exist?

RtM: And about the label Mixed Metal Styles that you used to define the sound of Tellus Terror (after all everyone loves looking label bands - and even it is understandable to people have a reference- then you already eased, he he he), this issue caused curiosity? How did you feel that the public have received and understood the proposal?

Felipe Borges: This label caused quite curious, and so I launched this idea, we were very criticized and praised a bit.

But we remained firm in this choice, and gradually people began to understand and come to love even. I even received messages saying that was bullshit teen, and my answer was simple:

- I'd rather play teenage bullshit forever, and show my work, instead to be a failure who died on the road and now sits on the shadows, and that does not make shit to anyone. Fuck you! For me only wins who persists and fight without look back!

RtM: Faced with so much on offer, so many bands that come up, the facilities of the channels available on the Internet, what factors do you think are crucial to a band seeking its place and stand out in the scenario?

Felipe Borges: This question is very interesting and at the same time gives way to a view that I have, that if you do more of it, people will increasingly notice that what was new and original is now old and recurs, and will seek news. This is part of the natural evolution of things.

Search for what is unique, has good influences as the metal bands of the 80's, 90 to the most current, and create your own sound using all these bases but targeting the future. No doubt you will stand out in the crowd, BUT the main!! Engage in real music, think if you really love what they do, and dedicate themselves without thinking about quitting or giving up.

We are all capable of the same, but only grows those who fight!

                                    

RtM: And how do you see this situation? It is possible, or will one day be feasible to live only by the work with a metal band today? A few succeeded. What is missing for more bands to reach a higher status?

Felipe Borges: Lack of professionalism!

Live the Underground is cool, but professionalize the underground is essential to be seen with good eyes on around the country, where the metal is treated in a professional manner. Here (in Brazil) are some shits producers who burn our name out there, we have bands packing confusion with other bands by banalities, public missing only give her ass band that comes out, just by being gringa.

I call this syndrome without culture, unconsciously think that if you give full support to what comes out, it will be different. Arrange your own home to live better fucking! The house of mainstream bands is already fucking shining! Support what is fucking here, in you ground!


RtM: Another places and coutries have the same problem, i think.

Felipe Borges: We also have those who only go to concerts of foreign or mainstream bands, because they really think that local bands are a turd and he wants to see quality show. The fact is that the bands of Brazil are fucking good. What fucks the bands are bastards producers and motherfuckers, whose dont' wanna pay the bands. Just want the money from the ticket and go.

How a band will have a good sound, with a shit backline? A shit equipament neither a beggar of Europe accept as alms? Are a few good and honest producers here.

When a producer makes the fucking show decently, the show auction, is fuck, the equipament are fucking good, the bands can make a good perform on stage and earn cachet, public drinking, fucking, spewing in bathroom, have fun until the wee early morning hours, go home and sleep fucking happy.

It's simple!

RtM: Besides Tellus Terror, many creative bands have emerged, it is difficult to label some, reaching the conclusion that it is better to call all just metal. What new bands come calling your attention and why? You seek to listen and seek to know new bands?

Felipe Borges: We have so many new bands, and great, who seek their own sound within the metal, which is difficult to highlight a few. Are several! All who come in contact and share their materials I listen, and I admire their work.

Tellus Terror: Jornada Sonora Sem Amarras

Partindo da concepção de que todos os estilos e sub-divisões do Rock e Metal são um só, que devemos juntar forças, o Tellus Terror (Tellus, é terra em latim) trabalhou sua sonoridade transitando por todas as nuances que compõem a "música pesada", e apresenta em "Ez Life DV8" (leia-se "Easy Life Deviate") o seu Mixed Metal Styles.

Um trabalho que surpreende desde a bela e bem cuidada concepção gráfica, um bem elaborado conceito lírico, onde tratam sobre o complexo tema de como a vida na terra começou, como a terra tomou forma, a adaptação do ser humano no planeta, enfim também, o quão pouco ainda sabemos, e, a parte sonora, que também, numa primeira audição pode não ser digerida de imediato, mas já vai ser notada a qualidade da produção e execução. 

Pesado, complexo, climático, extremo...melodioso. O Tellus vai de um extremo ao outro, alternando vocais rasgados, guturais, limpos, momentos cadenciados, rápidos e "meio tempo", em variações que passeiam pelo Black Metal Sinfônico, Thrash, Death, Hardcore....bom....Mixed Metal Styles.

Recomendo audições atentas, são muitos detalhes, e o álbum vai "viciando", levando o ouvinte numa verdadeira jornada sonora, e em meio a tantas bandas que querem apresentar um som "original", "moderno" ou "atual", com músicas que soam iguais umas às outras, soam clones de outras bandas, poucas acertam, e nada trazem de novidade, simplesmente soando "plásticas", felizmente, temos grupos como o Tellus Terror, uma dessas exceções, entrando no rol das poucas que acertam a mão, sendo uma das que realmente empolgam, pois não basta uma capa bem feita e uma produção cara e sonoridade "estourando", se a música apresentada não faz o sangue ferver.

Para citar destaques, vou de "Terraformer", "3rd Rock From the Sun" e "I.C.U. in Hell", que acredito, representam bem o MMS do Tellus Terror, apesar de que tudo soa melhor se degustado como um todo.
