Com seu quarto álbum de estúdio, Damage Control, os italianos do Speed Stroke reafirmam sua identidade ao fundir a energia contagiante do sleaze rock escandinavo com a tradição do hard rock oitentista. Produzido por Erik Mårtensson (Eclipse), o disco transforma a tensão entre permanecer fiel às próprias raízes e buscar evolução em um conjunto de canções que privilegia grandes refrães, riffs marcantes e uma produção moderna, cristalina e extremamente eficiente.
A abertura com "Glorious Breakdown" deixa claro que a banda não pretende perder tempo. Impulsionada pela bateria precisa de Dario Capacci (Trick Or Treat), a faixa combina velocidade, peso e melodias memoráveis em uma síntese convincente entre heavy metal tradicional e hard rock. Os dois solos dialogam entre si de forma inteligente, enquanto a breve mudança de andamento adiciona dinâmica antes do retorno explosivo ao tema principal.
O clima muda em "Heart of the City", que aposta em uma abordagem mais cadenciada e coloca baixo e voz em primeiro plano. O timbre encorpado das guitarras, os backing vocals cuidadosamente distribuídos e um solo extremamente elegante reforçam a atmosfera clássica da composição. Em alguns momentos, a influência de AC/DC aparece de forma sutil, mas sem soar derivativa, culminando em um encerramento grandioso.
A faixa-título representa um dos pontos de equilíbrio do álbum. A irreverente "Italian Coglione" introduz teclados e novas texturas logo nos primeiros compassos. Em "In Flames", o Speed Stroke entrega outro exemplar de hard'n'heavy sustentado por um refrão extremamente eficiente. A grande surpresa do álbum surge em "Blessed By Misery", um blues rock sofisticado que conta com a participação de Giorgia Colleluori (Sinner, IT'sALIE). O contraste entre sua voz e a de Jack acrescenta novas nuances emocionais ao disco, enquanto a instrumentação transita naturalmente entre o blues e o hard rock. O solo de guitarra é um dos mais inspirados do trabalho, e o inesperado encerramento com saxofone oferece um dos momentos mais elegantes de Damage Control.
O jogo de palavras de "All For The Weak End" antecipa outra excelente composição. A influência do Aerosmith aparece principalmente na condução vocal e na construção do refrão, mas o Speed Stroke imprime personalidade suficiente para evitar qualquer sensação de mera homenagem. A produção novamente merece elogios pela clareza e pelo equilíbrio entre todos os elementos da banda.
A penúltima faixa, "Walls”, mantém o alto nível do álbum ao destacar a cozinha formada por baixo e bateria, permitindo que as guitarras trabalhem com maior liberdade. O refrão foge um pouco da estrutura adotada nas músicas anteriores, trazendo variedade ao repertório sem romper sua unidade. Encerrando o trabalho, "Chain Reaction" assume definitivamente a faceta mais sleaze da banda. Os efeitos aplicados aos vocais na introdução, os coros abundantes e o discreto piano ao fundo acrescentam novas camadas à composição, que fecha o álbum de forma leve, divertida e extremamente contagiante.
Mais do que uma coleção de boas músicas, Damage Control evidencia uma banda plenamente consciente de sua identidade. O Speed Stroke evita reinventar o gênero, mas demonstra enorme competência ao atualizá-lo através de uma produção contemporânea, arranjos vocais sofisticados e um repertório consistente do início ao fim. Em um cenário onde muitos grupos apostam apenas na nostalgia, os italianos conseguem prestar reverência aos grandes nomes do hard rock sem abrir mão de personalidade própria.
Se algumas composições seguem estruturas bastante familiares, a qualidade da execução, a força dos refrães e o refinamento da produção compensam amplamente qualquer previsibilidade. Damage Control confirma o Speed Stroke como um dos nomes mais sólidos da nova geração do hard rock europeu e certamente agradará tanto aos fãs do sleaze escandinavo quanto aos admiradores do hard rock clássico dos anos 1980.

Opening track "Glorious Breakdown" wastes no time in setting the tone. Powered by Dario Capacci's (Trick Or Treat) thunderous drumming, the song combines the urgency of traditional heavy metal with the groove of melodic hard rock. Layered gang vocals, a memorable chorus and a pair of complementary guitar solos inject excitement throughout, while a brief tempo shift adds extra dynamics before launching back into full-speed attack.
The mood shifts with "Heart of the City", a more restrained, groove-oriented number where the bass lines and lead vocals take center stage. Rich guitar tones, carefully arranged backing vocals and an elegant solo reinforce the song's classic hard rock character.
